Guys & Bets (Episode 276): NBA Finals Game 1, MLB Playoffs, Broncos at Jets, College Football and More!

Joe Osborne, Andrew Avery and Iain MacMillan will be joined by Pamela Maldonado to get you set with a slate of bets on today’s episode of Guys & Bets.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers tips off tonight and that is where Joe is headed for his first bet. The storylines in this matchup write themselves: LeBron James vs his old team, Pat Riley vs his old team, and even Riley vs LeBron is something else. James’ departure from Miami left a rift between the two of them, and now it can be settled on the court. Joe eyes up a little something on the spread to get the NBA Finals started.

On to the MLB postseason for Joe as the New York Yankees look to close out the Cleveland Indians. It was a commanding 12-3 win in Game 1 as the Yankees used four home runs and got 13 strikeouts from Gerrit Cole to walk all over the Indians. Masahiro Tanaka takes the mound for New York and considering how impressive he has been in big spots, this one could get ugly again.

Since there is an NFL game on Thursday, Joe will give you his pick as the New York Jets host the Denver Broncos. While it may not be the most exciting game on paper, that doesn’t mean there isn’t money to be made. With both sides struggling so badly to start the season, picking a side can be tricky for this game. So instead, Joe is looking at the total, which sits at 40.

Ninja’s first pick is in MLB as the San Diego Padres host the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 1 of their series. The Padres were one of the feel-good stories that emerged from the MLB season. The Friars didn’t have huge expectations but delivered a really good campaign, finishing with the second-best record in the NL. It should be fun to see Fernando Tatis in his first MLB playoffs. The youngster hit .277 with 17 home runs and 45 RBIs and had a .937 OPS in the regular season.

We switch gears to the pitch and Serie A as Lazio hosts Atalanta. Neither team has been shy when it comes to scoring and allowing goals against each other, so Ninja is looking at a plus-money goal total here.

Iain’s pick on the show today is also in MLB. He’s looking at the other NL West team in the playoffs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, as they host the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of their series. The narrative remains the same for the Dodgers: great regular season and now what? But let’s put the big picture aside for a moment and focus on Game 1. Walker Buehler takes the bump for the Dodgers against Brent Suter for the Brew Crew.

Pam is up next and she has two college football picks. Her first pick is in the Conference USA with Western Kentucky at Middle Tennessee State. Both teams have yet to record a win and the home squad is favored by 7 points. After 14 points in their opener, the Blue Raiders put up 35 in their second game behind 372 yards and three touchdowns from quarterback Asher O’Hara.

Next up for Pam, she’s looking at the total between East Carolina and Georgia State. This game has “shootout” written all over it, as neither team has much in the way of defense. The Pirates gave up 41 points through three quarters last week against UCF on their way to a 51-28 loss. The Panthers are also 0-1 as they fell 34-31 to the Ragin’ Cajuns from Louisiana.
