Your favorite sports cappers are back for Football Friday on Guys & Bets as Joe Osborne, Andrew Avery and Iain MacMillan throw down seven picks for your football weekend.
The Houston Texans host the Green Bay Packers Sunday and the home team has had its struggles this season starting out at 1-5. Through six weeks, Houston’s defense hasn't been effective at all, allowing the most rushing yards (1,065), they are 27th in points allowed and they are tied for the fewest interceptions with one. Joe is looking at a bet on the spread here.
After looking like a shell of themselves against the Miami Dolphins, the San Francisco 49ers bounced back large last week in beating the Los Angeles Rams. Now the 49ers welcome the New England Patriots into town. Speaking of teams who looked like a shell of themselves, that was the Patriots last week. These teams feature defenses who have been good at shutting the door when their opponent gets close to scoring situations. Joe is eyeing up something on the total in this one.
Joe is 6-1 on his 6-point teasers this season and he's got another for this week in the NFL. The Kansas City Chiefs have been dominant in their division the last couple seasons, and are on the road this week to face the Denver Broncos. Denver is fresh off a huge upset win against New England but Patrick Mahomes has had his way with the Pats and Joe is banking on that again. Getting KC down to -3.5 almost seems unfair with Mahomes under center. The other part of the teaser is in the NFC South with the Carolina Panthers taking on the New Orleans Saints. The Saints are favored by over a touchdown, so getting some extra points on the Panthers makes a lot of sense for Joe.
Ninja kicks off his picks by looking at the total between the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers. The Jaguars are who we thought they were, failing to score 17 points in three of their last four games. DJ Chark hasn't been able to take that next step for the Jags offense, partially due to injury, and partially due to quarterback Gardner Minshew. The Chargers are coming off a bye week and four consecutive losses, so, the Jags could be a welcomed site.
The lone college football pick on the show belongs to Ninja and he's got something for Kentucky at Missouri. The Wildcats are coming off two nice victories: a 34-7 win over 18th ranked Tennessee and a 24-2 win over Mississippi State. The Tigers defense has been generous this season giving up 45, 35, 38 points in three games so far. Kentucky is a 5.5-point fave in this SEC East matchup.
There are two undefeated teams remaining in the AFC: the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans and they have a showdown this weekend. Derrick Henry ran all over the Houston Texans last weekend to the tune of 212 yards and two touchdowns. It shouldn't be that easy against a stout Steelers defense which has allowed the fewest yards rushing thus far at 331. And all of sudden, the Steelers have weapons all over the field on the offensive side of the ball and Iain is looking at a bet on the moneyline for this one.
The top two teams in the NFC West are going at it in the desert with the Arizona Cardinals hosting the undefeated Seattle Seahawks. The Cardinals have been a streaky team to start the season as they won their first two games, dropped their next two, and then won two in a row. Lead by an aerial attack that's allowing Russell Wilson to do his thing, the Seahawks offense has been excellent. Wilson leads the league in passing touchdowns with 19 to only two interceptions. Kyler Murray has really had a breakout season with 16 total touchdowns, and he and DeAndre Hopkins have a chance to feast on a Seattle defense that has allowed the second passing yards so far at 1,852. Iain is on the moneyline in this game.
