NBA, College Basketball, and FA Cup Picks for Jan. 6, 2021 | Odds Shark’s Guys & Bets (Episode 303)

It’s a new year and now Joe Osborne, Andrew Avery and Iain MacMillan are back on the air to give their best bets for today’s slate of action and beyond.

Joe starts the show off with an NBA player prop as James Harden and the Houston Rockets are on the road to face the Indiana Pacers. These two teams are going in opposite directions but one direction Harden knows is to the hoop. He comes in averaging 33 points per game through five games and while there has been a lot of chatter about him being traded, it hasn’t slowed him down.

To go along with his player prop bet, Joe is looking at the total between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Orlando Magic. The Magic have had a nice start to their season, going 5-2, which is a bit unexpected when you look at their roster. Their defense has been stellar, holding opponents to just 107.7 points per game. The Cavs have some nice young pieces who might just be starting to figure it out. A couple of former first-round picks, Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, lead the team in scoring and will be key to any success this team has. But, is this total too high?

And what would Guys & Bets be without a first-quarter bet from Joe? Well, he’s got one as the Toronto Raptors head to the desert to take on the Phoenix Suns. It’s been a rough start for the Raps and for Pascal Siakam in particular. Quite the opposite for the Suns, though, as they sit at 5-2 and look like a new team all around. The acquisition of Chris Paul is already paying dividends with his experience and leadership.

Ninja is taking his pick here to the pitch and is looking at FA Cup action as Aston Villa squares off with Liverpool in a Friday tilt. The bet here isn’t on a side, but rather a total as Ninja has been effective with his totals wagers on Guys & Bets this season. These clubs have played once this season with Villa taking a 7-2 victory back in early October. Liverpool might be in a spot to be had, but Ninja has sound stats and reasoning to back this bet.

It’s that time when college basketball takes the stage, and Iain has a couple of bets lined up. His first wager is on the game between Auburn and Ole Miss. Each team will be looking for its first conference victory, but Iain isn’t betting on the spread, he’s looking at the total. Auburn’s three freshmen, Allen Flanigan, Justin Powell and JT Thor, have led the way for the Tigers, accounting for almost half of the team’s scoring. Senior guard Devontae Shuler leads the way for Ole Miss, averaging 14.6 points per game while connecting on 39.1 percent of his three-pointers.

Texas A&M has a road date tonight with South Carolina and Iain is looking at the line for his bet here. The Aggies and Gamecocks are pretty even statistically on offense. They both average 69 points per game, and rebounds, assists, blocks and steals are all very, very close. But there is a gap on defense and points allowed. A&M surrenders eight fewer points per game than South Carolina. Iain will dive deeper into the stats, though, and fill you in on his capping for this one.
