Guys & Bets: NBA, MLB & NHL Picks for May 19, 2021 (Episode 342)

NBA play-in games, Stanley Cup playoffs and MLB action. It’s a great time of the year in sports betting and Joe and Ninja are capping some of the biggest games of the day.

The San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies tip off with their seasons on the line and Joe has a player prop bet for it. He’s looking at DeMar DeRozan’s point total. The Spurs have shown a lot of depth-scoring this season, with DeRozan leading the way with 21.6 points per game.

On the MLB slate today, Joe found a spot he likes as the Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals wrap up a mini two-game set. The Royals have been awful lately, going 3-13 in their last 16 games, while the Brewers haven’t been much better at 4-11 in their last 15. There are only eight teams with fewer runs scored than the Royals, and the Brewers are one of them. It’s an F5 bet on this matchup.

The Stanley Cup playoffs are in full swing and it’s time for the all-Canadian North Division to get started in the festivities. The Edmonton Oilers host the Winnipeg Jets in Game 1 of their best-of-seven series. The Jets have a couple of key pieces who are questionable with injury concerns, namely Nik Ehlers and Kyle Connor. That’s not what any team needs to hear when Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are on the opposite side of the ice.

In MLB action, the St. Louis Cardinals trot out ace Jack Flaherty for a divisional matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Flaherty comes into today’s game with six quality starts in eight appearances thus far. It’s a good-looking spot for him as the Pirates average a measly 2.9 runs per game. The Cardinals are 13-6 as betting favorites this season. The moneyline is too chalky to bet here, so Ninja has another spot for his money on this game.

Trevor Rogers, an emerging MLB star and a Guys & Bets darling, takes the bump for the Miami Marlins as they are in Philadelphia to face the Phillies. The rookie sensation is fifth in MLB with a 1.84 ERA. The NL East has been a weird division so far. The Marlins have the best run differential at exactly zero, while the rest of the division is in the negative in that category. Ninja is betting on the total in this game.
