The Steve Asmussen trained Tapiture earned 10 points by winning the Southwest Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park on Feb. 17 to move up into first place in the Road to the 2014 Kentucky Derby points standings. The colt is currently listed at 12-1 in Derby future betting odds.
There are two major Derby preps on Saturday, each with 50-20-10-5 points up for grabs to the top four finishers. The Sportsbook of the $400,000 Fountain of Youth (G2) and the $400,000 Risen Star (G2) will each earn 50 points, which virtually assures locking in a starting berth in the Kentucky Derby (G1).

The current betting favorite for the Kentucky Derby is Shared Belief at 5-1. The Jerry Hollendorfer trainee has not made his three-year-old debut and has not earned any Derby points. His last start was a win in the CashCall Futurity (G1) at Hollywood Park on Dec. 14.
Another runner that needs to pick up Derby points is Top Billing, who is currently listed in Derby future betting at 6-1. The colt will be one of the favorites for the Fountain of Youth. The colt is trained by Shug McGaughey, who won last year’s Fountain of Youth with Orb, who went on to win the Florida Derby (G1) and the Run for the Roses.
The Todd Pletcher trained Commissioner is the 3-1 morning line favorite for the Fountain of Youth and is currently listed at 18-1 in Derby future betting.
Vicar’s in Trouble is the 5-2 morning line favorite for the Risen Star. The Mike Maker trainee won the LeComte (G3) at Fair Grounds in his last outing by 6 ¾ lengths. The colt is currently 16-1 in Derby future betting.
Rise Up is 4-1 on the morning line for the Risen Star and makes his first start since winning the Delta Jackpot (G3) on Nov. 23. The colt is 35-1 in Derby future betting.
