American Pharoah remains the early betting favorite for the Kentucky Derby at 9/2 in wagering odds released this week by Sportsbook.
Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, the colt makes his final prep for Louisville on Saturday in the $1 million Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park. The son of Pioneerof the Nile is the 1/2 morning line favorite.
The colt made his three-year-old debut in the Rebel Stakes (G2) over the Oaklawn Park main track, taking the field gate to wire and winning by 6 ¼ lengths under jockey Victor Espinoza, who will again be in the saddle.
His main foe will be Far Right, who won the Smarty Jones and Southwest (G3) at Oaklawn Park. The colt is currently listed at betting odds of 40/1 for the Kentucky Derby at Sportsbook.
The Arkansas Derby is the final Road to the Derby points race. International Star is the leader in the Road to the Derby points standings with 171, followed by Dortmund with 170 and Carpe Diem with 164.
Dortmund is trained by Baffert and is the second choice in early Derby wagering at Sportsbook at odds of 5/1. The colt is undefeated in six career starts, winning the Santa Anita Derby (G1) in his most recent outing on April 4.
Carpe Diem is the third choice in early Derby wagering at 11/2. Trained by Todd Pletcher, the colt won the Toyota Blue Grass (G1) at Keeneland on April 4.
Mubtaahij, who won the UAE Derby (G2) at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, continues to take betting action. Trained by Mike DeKock, the colt is 12/1 at Sportsbook, good for fourth choice among the top Kentucky Derby contenders.
