The question all week for the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby was, “Who is going to be the betting favorite?”
The undefeated Verrazano has been the future betting favorite since February, and closed in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Wager at 7-1. The colt has been as low as 7-2 at Sportsbook.
Florida Derby Sportsbook Orb was receiving rave reviews since arriving at Churchill Downs, enough that Churchill Downs linesmaker Mike Battaglia installed the Shug McGaughey trainee as the 7-2 morning line favorite , with Verrazano relegated to the 4-1 second choice.

Well, with nearly $600,000 in the Derby win pool on Friday both are playing second fiddle to Revolutionary and Goldencents, who both closed at 5-1.
The Louisiana Derby (G2) Sportsbook Revolutionary actually had more money wagered on him with $73,955 in the pool. Santa Anita Derby Sportsbook Goldencents was not far behind, with $71,010.

Orb is currently third choice at 6-1, and the biggest surprise is Verrazano, who drifted all the way up to 11-1 in Friday betting.
That price certainly will come down, but it is an indication that horseplayers were not impressed with his three-quarter length win over Normandy Invasion in the Wood Memorial in his last start.
The Chad Brown trained Normandy Invasion took some play, down to 8-1 from his 12-1 morning line.
The biggest fall from grace goes to Vyjack, who closed at 10-1 in Pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. The Rudy Rodriguez trainee won his first four starts but ran third in the Wood.
Installed at 15-1 on the morning line for the Derby, his price has drifted up to 43-1 in early wagering. In the Oaks-Derby Double the lowest price with Oaks upset Sportsbook Princess of Sylmar ($79.60) is Orb, who will return $621.40.
The Oaks-Derby Double with Revolutionary would pay $790.00. The payoff with Normandy Invasion is $742.00, and if Verrazano were to win the Derby the double payoff would return $804.60.
