Dubai World Cup Odds: Arrogate Leads Strong U.S. Quintet

The Bob Baffert-trained Arrogate is the heavy favorite in early wagering at Sportsbook for the $10-million Dubai World Cup (G1) on Saturday night at Meydan Race Course.

The colt will be making his first start since winning the inaugural running of the $12-million Pegasus World Cup (G1) at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 28. The win was his sixth in seven career starts and he has already earned over $11 million.

Sportsbook has the colt listed at betting odds of 1-3 to add $6 million in earnings in what is now the world’s second-richest race.

Baffert has won the Dubai twice in his career, with Silver Charm in 1998 and Captain Steve in 2011. It has not been a good run since then for Baffert, who suffered a heart attack while in Dubai to saddle Game On Dude in 2012.

He will also saddle Hoppertunity, who ran third in last year’s edition of the Dubai World Cup, which was won by California Chrome. The multiple stakes Sportsbook is currently at odds of 12-1 in early wagering at Sportsbook.

Hoppertunity won the San Antonio (G2) at Santa Anita in his last start on Feb. 4.

There are three other U.S.-based runners making their trip for the race — Gun Runner, Neolithic and Keen Ice.

Gun Runner is listed at odds of 8-1 at Sportsbook. The Steve Asmussen trainee won the Razorback Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn Park in his last outing on Feb. 20.

Last year he capped off his year with a runner-up finish in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and then won the Clark Handicap (G1).

Neolithic has just two starts in stakes company. He ran second in the Discovery (G3) at Aqueduct on Nov. 12 and ran a decent third in the Pegasus World Cup in his last start. The colt is listed at 25-1 in early Dubai World Cup wagering at Sportsbook.

Keen Ice was fourth in the Pegasus World Cup in his last outing, his ninth loss in a row. His last win came in the 2015 Travers (G1) where he beat Triple Crown Sportsbook American Pharoah.

The Todd Pletcher trainee is listed at 33-1 in early World Cup betting at Sportsbook.
