Kentucky Derby: Firing Line Betting Odds

Firing Line has the best chance to win the 2015 Kentucky Derby out of the entire 20-horse field based on Wednesday’s post position draw. And at his current odds bettors may get a bargain if he becomes the 10th horse ever to win the Kentucky Derby out of the No. 10 position.

Giacomo was the last horse to win the Kentucky Derby out of that spot a decade ago, and eight others have done the same from that Kentucky Derby post position since 1930.

The Sportsbook of the Sunland Derby on March 22, Firing Line previously finished second in both the Robert B. Lewis and Los Alamitos Futurity under trainer Simon Callaghan, who has learned from Todd Pletcher among others.

But perhaps the biggest advantage Firing Line will have is who is riding him out of the starting gates, as jockey Gary Stevens has won eight Triple Crown races, including the Kentucky Derby three times. The last time Stevens rode a Kentucky Derby Sportsbook came in 1997 with Silver Charm.

Firing Line was listed as high as 14/1 on April 15 and appears to be very close to that number based on the latest odds. On a more positive note, this is a horse that was as low as 33/1 early in the year and looks to be one of the top risers on the betting board overall.
