It might not be the best post position for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, but Frosted need not look further than Orb in 2013 to find another horse that won the race from near his assigned gate.
And the jockey that rode Orb to that victory, Joel Rosario, will be atop Frosted as well in hopes of repeating the success he enjoyed just two years ago at the Kentucky Derby.
Frosted is coming off a win at the Wood Memorial on April 4 and previously placed fourth at the Fountain of Youth on Feb. 21 following a pair of second-place finishes at the Holy Bull and Remsen. His trainer Kiaran McLaughlin helped 2006 Belmont Stakes Sportsbook Jazil for his lone Triple Crown victory while Rosario also won the Belmont in 2014 on Tonalist.

Frosted’s highest odds to win the Kentucky Derby were 14/1 on April 15 after taking first in the Wood Memorial, but this is a horse that has really jumped up the betting board over the past month. Two weeks earlier on April 1, Frosted was 50/1 to win the Kentucky Derby.

All it took was that one big victory to impress the oddsmakers and make the Kentucky-bred gray one to watch for more than one reason.
