2025 Blue Jays Season Preview & Odds: Can Vladdy Win MVP?

The Blue Jays have trended downward for a few years now. After two early playoff eliminations in 2022 and 2023, the club missed the postseason altogether in 2024, winning just 74 games and finishing last in the AL East.

This was a devastating result. So far, though, Toronto hasn't been idle. The Jays added some big free agents, and there is more optimism in the 6ix this year, even with Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. on expiring contracts.

In this Blue Jays 2025 season preview, I'll dive into the latest odds, key matchups, and source some betting value for the boys in blue.

2025 Blue Jays Odds: Division, AL Pennant, World Series

Odds as of Feb. 4

Somehow, +2500 odds for the Jays to make the World Series just don't seem steep enough. While Toronto could surprise the baseball world with an 85-win season in 2025, I doubt it comes with a result anywhere near the three listed outcomes above.

I would not recommend betting the Jays to win the World Series or the AL Pennant. The division title seems just as unlikely, as the Jays haven’t claimed an AL East banner since 2015. Before that, you would have to go back to 1993, the year of their last World Series win, to find their previous division victory.

2025 Blue Jays Win Total Odds

Odds as of Feb. 4

As we know, the Blue Jays fell short of this total a season ago, largely due to poor offense and a disastrous bullpen. Vladdy led the squad with 30 homers in 2024, and nobody else reached 20 homers. George Springer, Daulton Varsho, and Davis Schneider all performed poorly. In the bullpen, Jordan Romano and Erik Swanson struggled.

Toronto did a good job this winter plugging the obvious holes. The club signed power bat Anthony Santander, new closer Jeff Hoffman, and future Hall of Fame starter Max Scherzer. The Jays also brought in 2B Andres Gimenez and RP Nick Sandin from Cleveland.

With a full season of Bichette and Guerrero poised for a strong walk year (an extension seems unlikely), Toronto will sit right on the cusp of this win total. Gun to my head, I'm taking the OVER, as I doubt the Blue Jays will ever go full rebuild and trade Vlad or Bo at the deadline.

2025 Blue Jays Playoff Odds

Blue Jays Playoff Odds

+280-n/a

Odds as of Feb. 4

+280 seems well-placed for the likelihood of Toronto cracking the postseason. By all accounts, the Yankees and Red Sox got better this offseason. Baltimore, while quiet this winter, remains a strong club, and the Rays have an avalanche of pitching returning from injury.

Again, the Blue Jays are in the "we're happy to win 80 games" territory right now. Perhaps a crazy year from Vladdy or Bo might shake up expectations, but I wouldn't hold my breath (or risk my bankroll) on Toronto making the postseason.

2025 Blue Jays: AL MVP Odds + AL Cy Young Odds

Max Scherzer+4000

Vladdy is the only reasonable bet here. He's trending in the right direction; I can't say the same for the rest of the gang. Bichette, for example, couldn't even whiff MVP finalist status during his best seasons. He has no chance coming off a dreadful, injured-plagued year.

The vets on the pitching staff don't have much of a chance either. Gausman started in the top five for AL Cy Young odds each of the past two seasons but hasn't found that elite success. His velocity has diminished and he's allowed too many hits to properly offset his elevated strikeout numbers.

Scherzer would be a wild Cy Young winner at 40 years old. Toronto will be lucky to get 125 innings out of him in 2025.
