Riding a season-high seven-game winning streak, the Diamondbacks will make the climb to Coors Field today to begin a possibly pivotal series with the NL West-leading Rockies. Colorado opened as a slight favorite for the first of a four-game set but the Rockies will have to overcome the D-backs’ five-game road winning streak and starter Zack Greinke (8-3, 3.00 ERA) if they want to begin this series on the front foot.
These two clubs have been among the best in baseball through the first 70 games and with both of them on hot streaks, there could be some fireworks in Denver this week. During the Rockies’ five-game winning streak, they’re 4-1 on the runline and they’ve averaged 7.2 runs. The D-backs, however, have been playing things a little closer to the vest, winning five of their last seven by just one run.
With a 3-0 record and 4.03 ERA, Zack Greinke has pitched pretty decently in his eight career starts at Coors and he gives his club the definite edge in starting pitching tonight when he squares off with German Marquez (5-3, 4.19 ERA). Although the Venezuelan has shown plenty of potential in his young career, he’s struggled to pitch at altitude and he’s earned a bloated 5.70 ERA through four home starts in his second season as a pro.
Given how Marquez has pitched at Coors and how the D-backs have been playing away from ’Zona, their underdog moneyline would seem to offer some value for those seeking it this evening.
