Who will crack first, the D-backs or the Indians? The two clubs have won 11 and 12 straight games respectively and the former extended their streak in impressive fashion on Monday with a 13-0 underdog beatdown of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Can they do the same thing tonight with Zack Greinke on the hill?
Facing his former team for the fourth time this season, Greinke’s 4.58 ERA against the Dodgers in 2017 is less than ideal. Arguably the D-backs’ best rotation weapon, Greinke has had trouble firing away from Chase Field and he was knocked around for five earned runs in his only start at Chavez Ravine this year.
That being said, the Dodgers have been awful of late, going 1-9 straight up in their last 10 contests. Dem Bums have scored a putrid 2.2 runs per game over their last six and any pitcher not named Clayton Kershaw has been sketchy.
Hyun-Jin Ryu, for example, is coming off a performance less than a week ago in which he was absolutely shelled by these very D-backs for six earned runs over four innings. He may want to pitch around J.D. Martinez in this one as the slugger is coming off a career night in which he knocked four baseballs over the wall at Dodger Stadium.
Despite their streak – and the Dodgers’ skid – the Diamondbacks are still 12.5 games back in the NL West but if their success against the NL West leaders continues, the Snakes won’t be afraid to face the Blue Crew in a five-game postseason series.
