[wednesdinger_:BET99-2374158]Here are my two Y/NRFI bets for Wednesday, May 29:
Pick 1: Cubs vs Brewers: No Run First Inning (-140)
Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:40 pm ET
Darn, the sportsbooks priced this line well, adjusting the NRFI bet to chalkier -140 odds. The reason for this? His name is Shota. Shota Imanaga. And the Japanese lefty has been historically reliable for NRFI bets. Imanaga, of course, is yet to allow a run in the first inning of any of his nine starts. Teams have a hard time scoring on him in general, plating just five earned runs in 53.2 innings.
Imanaga's 0.84 ERA doesn't look ready to crack any time soon, which bodes well for our NRFI play. Bryse Wilson (5-1 NRFI) goes for the Brewers Wednesday, leaving our bet in the hands of the Cubs offense. That's fine with me, though, as Chicago has managed a measly .511 OPS in the first inning over the last 14 days.
[wednesdinger_:BET99-2374158]Pick 2: Astros vs Mariners: Yes Run First Inning (+120)
Matchup Preview - Game Time: 9:40 pm ET
Stick with me as I walk you through some key data pertaining to our lovely +120 YRFI bet today. Off the top, I'll argue Astros starter Justin Verlander is vulnerable in the first inning. His 3.86 ERA (five earned runs) in seven starts suggests we can take advantage. That's not the dagger here, though.
Houston's abysmal run prevention, especially on the road, has influenced me to place this bet. The 'Stros allow 0.93 runs per game in the first, the worst mark in baseball. That number nearly doubles on the road, when Astros starters allow an average of 1.60 runs in the first inning. That's unbelievable. And the YRFI odds suggest the sportsbooks aren't privy to such data.
