Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Mets opened as -108 favorites in Wednesday’s matchup and have been bet up slightly to New York -118. Atlanta is going off as a +108 road underdog and the total has remained steady at 8.5 runs. The UNDER is 21-7-2 in New York’s 30 home games this season.

Starting Pitchers Analysis

Kyle Wright has compiled a 3.76 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP in eight starts for Atlanta’s Triple-A affiliate this season. Wright was called up for this game as the Braves need pitching depth with Max Fried hitting the injured list with blisters. The 25-year-old owns a 6.09 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP in 68 career innings in the major leagues.

Tylor Megill has split time between New York’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates this season and has recorded a 3.35 ERA, a 1.09 WHIP and 59 strikeouts across his 40.1 minor league innings. Megill will be making his MLB debut on Wednesday night.

Atlanta News & Notes

Charlie Morton pitched brilliantly on Tuesday night, allowing only one hit and two walks across seven shutout innings with 11 strikeouts in Atlanta’s 3-0 win over the Mets. Atlanta has now pitched 17 straight scoreless innings against the Mets after holding them to zero runs in the final inning of the first game in Monday’s doubleheader and then shutting them out 1-0 in the second game of that twin bill.

Atlanta’s pitching staff has been severely hampered by injuries this season with Max Fried joining Huascar Ynoa, Touki Toussaint and Mike Soroka on the injured list. Despite all of those injuries, the Braves have pitched well over their current 5-2 streak, allowing only two runs per game amd spinning four shutouts.

New York News & Notes

The Mets have had their own issues with pitching depth this season and received another scare Tuesday night when Marcus Stroman left his start against the Braves after only one inning with hip soreness. New York lost Joey Lucchesi for the season last week to an arm injury and cannot afford to lose Stroman for an extended period.

With their back-to-back shutout losses to the Braves, the Mets fell to 2-6 over their last eight games. New York ranks 29th in the majors in run production, averaging 3.62 runs per game, and is scoring only 1.63 runs per game over this current eight-game slump. The Mets are now 37-31 and hold a four-game lead in the National League East.

Betting Pick: UNDER 8.5 runs

Tylor Megill looks like he has the stuff to succeed in the major leagues. New York can’t score. It’s hard to see nine runs in this one considering the first three games in the series have averaged a total of 3.33 runs per game.
