Orioles vs Red Sox Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Red Sox opened as a very slight home favorite at -116 on the moneyline with the visiting Orioles coming in at -111, making this matchup essentially a pick ‘em. The total was set at 10 runs with the OVER going 5-1 in Boston’s last six games and 6-2 in Baltimore’s last eight contests.

Boston has won eight of the last 11 meetings against Baltimore at Fenway, which is likely why the oddsmakers still like the hosts in their Orioles vs Red Sox prediction.

Starting Pitchers

Josh Winckowski (5-5) will look to continue his strong play for the Red Sox when he takes the mound on Thursday night. The rookie picked up his second straight win in his last start on August 5, scattering five hits and one earned run over five innings against the Kansas City Royals. The right-hander has a 4.68 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP over 50 innings.

Dean Kremer (4-3) was also impressive in his last outing as he pitched 6.1 scoreless innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 5 to earn his first win in nearly a month. The right-hander owns a 3.43 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP through 57.2 innings of work this season.

Odor’s Late Homer Helps Orioles Complete Comeback

The Orioles picked up their second straight win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday in a 6-5 victory. With the Blue Jays up 5-3 in the seventh, Ryan Mountcastle hit an RBI double to cut the deficit in half before Rougned Odor hit a two-run shot in the eighth to help the Orioles complete the late comeback.

Baltimore has relied on some excellent pitching during its current hot streak as the club is giving up 3.38 runs per game through its last eight contests, and just 2.71 runs in their seven wins over that span. With a promising start to the second half, the Orioles have propelled themselves into contention for the top spot in the AL Wild Card race, just two games back of the Blue Jays.

Red Sox Pitching Falters In Fourth Straight Loss

The Red Sox dropped their fourth straight game on Wednesday as they were defeated 8-4 by the Atlanta Braves. Nick Pivetta held Atlanta off the board through the first three innings but a three-run homer from Marcell Ozuna broke the game wide open in the fourth. With the Braves up 5-1 in the seventh, Tommy Pham hit a three-run shot to pull the Red Sox within one, but that’s as close as they would get.

Pitching continues to be a problem for the Red Sox, who are allowing 7.43 runs per game over their last seven contests, while picking up just one win over that span. On the offensive side, Pham has been a bright spot of late as he comes into Thursday’s matchup with home runs in consecutive games while recording seven RBI in those contests.

Orioles: Keys To Victory

The Orioles are peaking at the right time and they have an opportunity to stay hot against a Red Sox team that is falling apart. If Baltimore’s pitching can remain steady, there should be plenty of chances for their bats to build a big lead against Boston.

Red Sox: Keys To Victory

The Red Sox need some stability on the mound and they’ll be hoping that Winckowski can provide that on Thursday. The right-hander has allowed just three earned runs combined over his last two starts – if he can keep up that level of play, Boston may just be able to get back into the win column.
