YRFI/NRFI Picks For Today: Mize Brings Misery In Detroit

Wake up MLB bettors, we've got Y/NRFI picks to hit. Instant MLB action is the way to go these days, so follow my best bets and trends ahead of a good day for baseball.

Here are my two Y/NRFI picks for Monday, June 24:

Pick 1: Blue Jays vs Red Sox: No run First inning (-120)

Matchup Preview - Game Time: 7:10 pm ET

While the Blue Jays have scored a first-inning run in two straight games, the club's overall numbers suggest first-inning struggles are likely. And with Y/NRFI, it's always better to play the trends.

Let's start with this: the last time Tanner Houck went against the Jays, he held Toronto scoreless. The same applies for Chris Bassitt, who held Boston scoreless last time around. Combined, these two starters are 26-4 NRFI in their 30 starts this season. It's hard to argue with those statistics.

The top of Toronto's order doesn't have a good beat on Houck. For example, Vladdy Guerrero Jr. is just 3-for-12 lifetime vs Houck with a .564 OPS. I explored some of these themes in today's MLB same-game parlay, so be sure to check that out, too.

Pick 2: Phillies vs Tigers: yes Run First Inning (-115)

Matchup Preview - Game Time: 6:40 pm ET

I made a fool of myself last time I backed Aaron Nola under the assumption he'd be squeaky clean through the first inning and glide to success. That fateful pick occurred June 13, when the Phillies right-hander allowed eight earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Now, Nola is on my fade list for a while. And betting YRFI is my sharpest form of fading. In this case, Tigers starter Casey Mize makes a fine dance partner with a 7-7 YRFI record. It's safe to say Mize has not been great this year, allowing 10.6 H/9 and a 1.449 WHIP.

Traffic is guaranteed in a Mize start, especially in the first inning. Mize owns a 7.07 ERA in the first inning of games. He has also allowed 21 first-inning hits in 14 starts. This first inning could be a circus if Nola struggles and the Phillies wack Mize around like other teams have this season.
