The Blueprint: How to Bet on the Los Angeles Dodgers

If you want to win at betting you have to do your homework. Or, you can let me do the homework for you and lay out a blueprint for situations where a bet either for or against a team is worth your hard-earned money.

Usually when a team loses their best player, they start to lose more games, but that’s not the case for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their ace and MVP Clayton Kershaw hasn’t thrown a pitch yet in July, but they’re having their best month of the season and are cashing in for bettors, especially at home where they’re 8-3 this month.

The Dodgers are a standout bet at Dodger Stadium as they currently own the best home record in the National League, but let’s dig a little bit deeper into some trends that have developed over the course of the season and narrow in on some spots where they can make you some money.

They love to go streaking at home

When the Dodgers get on a roll at home, watch out! I went back and forth on whether or not to use an exclamation mark at the end of that last sentence, but given their recent run at home, it’s warranted. At home after a win at home, LA is 22-9 (71%) on the season, and 12-2 (86%) in their last 14 games in this spot. Look to cash in on this trend with some pretty lousy teams set to visit Dodger Stadium, including the D-backs, Phillies and Padres.

Digging even deeper into the at home after a win at home trend, they’re a fantastic UNDER bet in this situation, posting an 8-23 OVER/UNDER record on the season and 1-12 O/U over their last 13.

Your place or theirs? It doesn’t matter

As good as they are at home, there’s a spot on the road where LA has been valuable as cross-country road trips haven’t been much of a concern for the Boys in Blue. The Dodgers are 9-5 (64%) on the road against East division teams, which includes series wins over the Nationals, Mets and Blue Jays. Los Angeles was the underdog in six of those nine games.

In the last two months of the season, the Dodgers play in Philadelphia, Miami and in New York against the Yankees. It’s no secret that a team offers better value on the road, so make sure to grab it in those series.

Afternoon Delight? You should hit that

If you’re looking to get in on a little afternoon action, the Dodgers are a team you should jump all over. So far this season, LA is 17-9 (65%) in afternoon games, but have recently gone 8-3 during the day, which includes a 6-2 mark at home.

Make sure to keep tabs on start times for upcoming Dodger games as they still have a nice chunk of afternoon games remaining on their schedule that will be worth your betting consideration.

What else is trending?

This team finishes strong. LA is 9-2 since mid-June in the last game of a series.

Looking for an easy throw-in on a parlay ticket? The Dodgers are 9-2 at home in their last 11 games vs teams with losing records.

Don’t overspend on the road vs teams with losing records. LA is just 12-13 in this spot this season, so it might be best to steer clear if they’re big road favorites.

The UNDER has been the norm at Dodger Stadium this season, with an O/U record of 14-36 — 72% UNDER. The total has gone UNDER more often recently, cashing in 13 of the last 16 games.
