Starting Pitchers

Lucas Giolito (2-1) will make his seventh start of the season for Chicago. The right-hander went five innings in his last outing on May 18 against the Kansas City Royals, giving up seven hits and two earned runs in a no-decision. Giolito boasts a 2.84 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP through 31.2 innings this season.

Rich Hill (1-1) lasted just two innings in his last start on May 19 when he gave up six hits and four earned runs to the Seattle Mariners, though he avoided the loss as the Red Sox offense bailed him out. Hill has a 3.90 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP in 30 innings of work.

Boston Blows Out Chicago In Series Opener

It was a fun night for the Red Sox on Tuesday as they blew out the White Sox 16-3 to open the three-game series. Boston scored all of its runs in the first five innings, highlighted by a first-inning leadoff homer by Enrique Hernandez, a three-run shot from Trevor Story in the same inning and finally another three-run homer from Christian Vazquez in the fifth to cap things off.

Boston, which established a season high in runs (16) and hits (19), slugged four homers in the game. Surprisingly, however, the Red Sox have not relied on the long ball very much this season – their 39 home runs ranks 19th in the majors despite the club ranking 10th in runs scored.

Cease Hammered Again In Loss To Red Sox

Starter Dylan Cease had another off-night on Tuesday as he bore the brunt of Boston’s force, allowing eight hits and seven earned runs through just three innings. Cease still holds a 4-2 record on the season but has had some rocky starts over the last few weeks after he gave up six runs to the New York Yankees in just four innings on May 12.

Starting pitching has been a bit of an issue for Chicago through the early stages of the season as three of their starters have ERAs well over 4 – Cease (4.24), Vince Velasquez (5.30) and Dallas Keuchel (6.60). The White Sox have had just 10 quality starts from their rotation all season long, a trend that doesn’t lend itself to much team success.

Red Sox vs White Sox Pick & Insights

Red Sox: Keys To Victory

The Red Sox bats have exploded over their six-game win streak, averaging nine runs per contest. Story has 33 RBIs on the season, tied for sixth in the majors, with 13 of those RBIs plus five home runs coming during Boston’s six-game run. Look for Story to ignite the Red Sox offense once again Wednesday.

White Sox: Keys To Victory

The White Sox need a big rebound effort from their pitching and luckily they’re giving the ball to Giolito, who’s been one of the club’s few bright spots in the rotation. Giolito has not allowed more than three runs in a start this season, a trend that will need to continue in order for the White Sox to keep up with the streaking Red Sox.
