Red Sox vs Mariners Betting Odds June 14

Can the Mariners and King Felix shut down the Red Sox?

Coming off a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels, the Seattle Mariners will face a tougher test tonight as they open a four-game series vs the AL-leading Boston Red Sox. The Mariners have been on a tear lately, winning 20 of their last 25 games, and will send Felix Hernandez to the mound to try to stifle the Boston bats that are averaging 5.13 runs per game (2nd in MLB). Seattle opened as a +125 underdog in tonight’s matchup but is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games when not favored.

SHARK BITES
  • The Red Sox are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five games on the road.
  • Seattle is 14-9 SU in its last 25 games vs left-handed starters.
  • Boston’s J.D. Martinez is second in MLB with 22 home runs.

King Felix can still shut down batting orders but he’s been a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde this season. He got lit up for five earned runs vs Tampa in his last start, which ballooned his ERA this season to a career-worst 5.70. But in the start prior, he was in his 2010 Cy Young form by shutting down that same order in a 2-1 victory. For bettors, this kind of swing when Hernandez is on the bump makes the Mariners a very volatile bet, especially when you consider he has a 4.01 ERA in 19 career starts vs the Red Sox. If that’s something that you’re willing to overlook, just know that the Mariners are tied for the best home record in the majors and are 7-0 SU in their last seven games when Sportsbook a series.

Much like Hernandez, David Price has been hit-or-miss this season and the Red Sox (and bettors) have a difficult time projecting what kind of performance to expect when the lefty is starting. Price had a rough May with a 4.34 ERA in five starts but because Boston’s offense is so good, the Red Sox still finished 4-1 SU and against the runline in those games.  The Beantown Bombers are coming off a three-game sweep of the Orioles, outscoring the O’s 13-5, and the Sox are 5-2 SU and ATS in Price’s last seven starts.

Totals bettors should also be taking a hard look at the OVER in this tilt. The OVER has hit in seven of the Mariners’ last nine games with an average combined score of 9.7 runs per game.
