Two teams trying to find their way hook up in Atlanta on Tuesday night as the Braves (7-10) play host to the Chicago Cubs (7-9). Even though things haven’t gone their way to start the season, the Braves remain among the favorites to win the World Series at +1200. They won five of seven head-to-head meetings with the Cubs last season. Keep reading below for more insight, analysis and a Cubs vs Braves prediction.
Cubs vs Braves Odds & Analysis
The Braves opened as big favorites, but that line has come back down to earth with the consensus now at -160. Atlanta has dominated the Cubs at home in recent years, winning six of the last seven meetings at Truist Park. The total opened at 8 and remains at that number. Five of the last six contests between these clubs have gone OVER.
Marcus Stroman gets a fourth chance to right the ship and pick up his first win of the season. He has been hit hard, giving up at least five earned runs in each of his last two starts, and is now 0-2 with an ERA of 8.78. This should be a comfortable matchup for him, though, as he is 4-1 in six career starts against the Braves, holding them to two earned runs or less in all six.
Atlanta will send out Max Fried, who has gotten progressively better with each start this season, including seven shutout innings against the Dodgers to post his first win of the campaign in his most recent outing. He has also had success against his opponent with a 3-0 record and an ERA of 1.59 in three career starts vs the Cubs.

This Is Baseball … Not Blackjack
The last seven days haven’t exactly gone as planned for the Cubs, with the exception of one game. Chicago has lost five of its last six contests despite outscoring opponents 36-26 during that stretch. No, that isn’t a typo. In case you missed it, the Cubbies put up three touchdowns and three conversions in a 21-0 thumping of the Pirates on Saturday.
Offense hasn’t been an issue for this team, which leads the majors with a .273 batting average and is third with 84 runs scored thanks to Saturday’s explosion. Their pitching hasn’t been as efficient. They have a team ERA north of 4 and Cubs starters have combined for just three wins this season.
Braves Dependent On The Long Ball
The Braves are in search of their first series win of the season. They have lost two straight games and five of their last seven. The only thing consistent about their game is their inconsistency.
Matt Olson continues to be one of the few bright spots for Atlanta. He has been the team’s best hitter by far and ranks fifth in baseball with a .355 average. This team depends heavily on the long ball, having hit 20 home runs, tops in the National League.
But similar to Chicago, Braves pitchers has struggled this season, posting a team ERA of 4.59.
Cubs vs Braves Pick & Insights
Cubs: Keys To Victory
Keep the ball in the park. As mentioned, the Braves score a majority of their runs via the home run, and Stroman has given up one long ball in each game this season. If he can avoid letting the Braves add to their total, then it may be wise to take the road team when making your Cubs vs Braves pick.
Braves: Keys To Victory
Don’t let Stroman get comfortable. In two of his three starts, he has been victimized by the big inning (at least four runs). His WHIP is 1.65 so getting baserunners shouldn’t be an issue. If the Braves want to snap their mini-skid, they need to be patient at the plate, take some walks and come up clutch with men in scoring position.
