Hendricks and Cubs are Huge Faves in Windy City Series Opener

Winning eight of their last nine and reclaiming the lead in the NL Central, the Cubs will welcome back Kyle Hendricks (4-3, 4.09 ERA) for the start of the Windy City series this afternoon after the righty missed more than a month with tendinitis. The defending champs seem to have righted the ship and if Hendricks can rediscover his form from 2016, he’ll be a major boost to the Cubbies’ division bid.

SHARK BITES
  • The White Sox are 0-9 SU in their last 9 games.
  • The Cubs are 6-1 SU in their last 7 games against right-handed starting pitchers.
  • The visiting team is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games in this matchup.

It sure seems the Cubs are finally over their World Series hangover and since the Midsummer Classic, they’ve scored an average 6.22 runs while hitting .294 as a team.

On the other side of the city, the Pale Hose are struggling. Since the all-star break, the White Sox have lost eight straight games and it’s clear that the tank is fully on. They’ll counter Hendricks with Miguel Gonzalez (4-9, 4.89 ERA) as the 33-year-old looks to break a personal four-game losing streak in which the righty has given up a total of 16 earned runs.

Pegging the home team a massive -270 moneyline favorite for this series opener, bookmakers are confident that the Cubs are on the up and up. At that line, however, the world champions are a tough team to bet in Hendricks’ first game back – maybe consider a bet on the total here.
