A night after having a Carlos Carrasco start spoiled by a poor night at the dish, the Indians will call upon ace Corey Kluber (7-3, 2.80 ERA) to take on Paul Blackburn (1-0, 0.66 ERA) and the Athletics. Another loss for the Tribe would be their third in a row and would match the Indians’ longest losing streak of the season.
Since the beginning of June, Kluber has been on an incredible run. He’s gone 4-1 and given up just eight total runs in his last eight starts in which he’s fanned a lofty sum of 84 batters. The A’s actually kick-started Kluber’s run when they allowed the all-star to pitch six innings of shutout baseball against them in a game the Oak-town batters mustered just two hits and struck out 10 times against the filthy righty.
Oakland’s starter tonight has been a nice surprise for the California club as he’s allowed just one earned run through his first 13.2 innings pitched in the majors. His low strikeout rate, however, limits the rookie’s ceiling and he’ll likely be in for a wake-up call against the hard-hitting Indians.
