Faves Struggling When Indians, Rangers Clash

The Cleveland Indians and Texas Rangers kick off their 2017 MLB season when they take to the diamond in Arlington on Monday. Though the season is just starting, history suggests that the dog is in a good spot with the favored team going just 3-8 in the past 11 between the Indians and Rangers.

SHARK BITES
  • The total went UNDER in 11 of the Indians' final 14 games last season.
  • The Rangers will be without Adrian Beltre, who opens the season on the DL.
  • The Rangers were 36-11 SU in one-run games last season.

Cleveland will trot ace Corey Kluber, who struggled against the Rangers last season, out to the bump. Kluber posted a 4.85 ERA and a 1.154 WHIP in two starts against Texas last season, which were his second-worst numbers against any team he faced two or more times in 2016. The Indians will be looking to Kluber to pick up some slack with Jason Kipnis and Lonnie Chisenhall opening the season on the DL.

Yu Darvish will get his first Opening Day start in the MLB when he becomes the ninth different Opening Day pitcher for the Rangers in as many years. Darvish posted respectable numbers last season but was clearly not in top form following Tommy John surgery the previous year. When healthy, Darvish is one of the top strikeout pitchers in all of baseball but he has only pitched 244.2 innings since the beginning of 2014.
