Rockies vs Diamondbacks Betting Odds September 22

Totals Bettors Should Eye the UNDER With Senzatela On the Mound

The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks lock horns for the 18th time in 2018 as both squads continue to scratch and claw for a spot in the postseason. The Rockies sit 1.5-games back of a wildcard spot while the D’Backs sit six games back. Colorado drew first blood with the 6-2 victory last night and now will face lefty Patrick Corbin, who owns a 3.22 ERA in 16 home starts this season. The Diamondbacks opened as -170 favorites despite dropping four of their last five games with Corbin as the starter.

SHARK BITES
  • The Diamondbacks are 1-4 SU in their last five games with Patrick Corbin as the starter.
  • The Rockies are 8-2 SU and ATS in their last 10 games vs the Diamondbacks.
  • The UNDER has hit in 10 of the Rockies’ last 12 games with Antonio Senzatela as the starter.

It's a Toss-Up Between Starting Pitchers

Antonio Senzatela will get the call for the Rockies tonight who are desperately trying to catch the Dodgers and Cardinals in the standings. Senzatela is coming off a decent outing in San Francisco when he held the Giants to five hits and one run in the 3-2 win. He has faced the Diamondbacks three times (two starts) in 2018 and it has not gone well for the right-hander. He owns a 6.43 ERA from those games and when he faced Arizona on September 11, he allowed seven hits and four earned runs in the 6-3 loss. In his six road starts this season, the Rockies are 2-4 SU with Senzatela sporting a 4.05 ERA in those games.

In the Diamondbacks’ dugout, they’ve got southpaw Patrick Corbin staring down the Rockies’ batting order and he took the loss in his last outing vs the Cubs when he allowed five hits and three earned runs. Corbin may own a 2.70 ERA over his last five starts but the Diamondbacks have dropped four of those games as hitters have done him no favors by only averaging 2.4 runs in those contests.

The Rockies Have Been Clubbing Lefties

Colorado may have one of the best batting orders in the National League but when it faces lefties in 2018, it may be the best in MLB. When facing left-handers this season, the Rockies rank second in runs (244), first in hits (470), second in homers (71), second in RBI (235) and third in batting average and OPS. I’m not saying the Rockies will crush Patrick Corbin tonight but the evidence is there to suggest it could be a long night for the southpaw. When you factor in that the Rockies are 8-2 SU and ATS in their last 10 games in this matchup, the Rockies +1.5 runline looks very appealing.

The UNDER Could be a Profitable Wager

The total opened at 7.5 and trends are pointing to an UNDER in this divisional matchup. The UNDER has hit in 10 of the Rockies’ last 12 games when Antonio Senzatela starts with an average combined score of 6.8 runs per game. The Rockies also seem to have a penchant for their games going UNDER on the road lately as the UNDER has hit in nine of their last 12 away from Coors Field.

My Pick is…

To take the Rockies +1.5. Colorado was one of my picks to make the postseason prior to the start of the 2018 season and they seem to have the D’Backs number lately as evidenced by their record against them in the second half of the season. The lack of offense from Arizona is troubling as well as the D’Backs are only averaging 3.7 runs in 17 games in September. Pair that with how the Rockies fare vs lefties and it sounds like an easy wager to me.
