Ryu has been brilliant at home this season

Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-3, 2.42 ERA) makes his eighth trip to the mound at Dodger Stadium this season, looking for continued success. Los Angeles is 5-2 SU through Ryu’s previous seven outings at home, and he sports a sparkling 1.51 ERA over that span. Additionally, the 31-year-old has surrendered two or fewer earned runs in six of his seven home starts and allowed just three in the other one.

The South Korea native gets his first look at the Rockies lineup this season. However, Ryu has made nine career trips to the mound vs Colorado and would like better fortunes in tonight’s contest. The Dodgers are 3-6 SU over his nine career starts vs the Rockies and he sports an elevated 5.77 ERA, including going 0-4 SU last year when he held an ugly 8.64 ERA. Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado is a career 10-for-16 vs Ryu, with six of those hits going for extra bases, including three home runs.

Rockies have been winning behind Gray in the second half

Jon Gray (11-7, 4.80 ERA) looks to carry his impressive second-half stats into the opener vs the Dodgers. The Rockies were 9-9 SU through Gray’s first-half starts while he had a 5.44 ERA. Since the all-star break, Colorado is 8-2 SU when the righty takes the mound and his ERA is a middling 3.77. Additionally, the 26-year-old has had four quality starts through his five road outings following the Midsummer Classic.

Colorado is 1-1 SU over the Oklahoma native’s two trips to the mound vs Los Angeles in 2018. Both of those starts were at Coors Field and he holds a 5.59 ERA over that span. Gray tossed 5.2 innings, allowing four earned runs in the one win over LA, while he was tagged for just two earned runs over four innings in his loss. The Rockies are 6-4 SU through his 10 career starts vs the Dodgers and he has a modest 3.83 ERA.

Should you be on the UNDER tonight?

The Dodgers and Rockies had an average combined score of 5.33 through the first six meetings at Dodger Stadium this year and Sportsbook has tonight’s contest Sportsbook at 7.5 runs. Meanwhile, the Rockies have gone UNDER in eight of Gray’s 10 career starts vs the Dodgers but have only gone UNDER 7.5 runs in half of the 10 games. Los Angeles has gone UNDER in seven of Ryu’s last 10 home outings and has also gone UNDER 7.5 runs in five of Ryu’s last eight starts vs the Rockies. Colorado has also been riding an UNDER wave on the road, going UNDER in seven of its last eight games. Lastly, the total has gone UNDER in five of the last six meetings between the two clubs.

My take on Los Angeles vs Colorado

Although there are strong indicators of an UNDER for tonight’s game, I like the Dodgers on the -1.5 runline. Los Angeles has won nine of the 16 meetings with Colorado this season and won by two or more runs in each of those nine games. Additionally, the Dodgers have scored the third-most runs in MLB over the last 30 days. Los Angeles has also won four of its last five games and had an average winning margin of 6.25 over that span, winning by two or more in each of those wins. Lastly, Ryu has allowed just seven earned runs at home this season over seven starts, while Gray holds a 4.81 road ERA and has a career 4.35 ERA at Dodger Stadium.
