Dodgers eye series sweep over Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered this series a half-game back in the NL West standings and after back-to-back wins are now 1.5 games up on the Colorado Rockies and seeking a sweep. The Dodgers have won six of their last seven games and open this game as a -220 favorite with the Rockies coming back at +190. Rockies struggling to find success behind Anderson

Tyler Anderson (6-9, 4.82 ERA) has had the doors blown off him in the second half. The Rockies are just 1-9 SU with the 28-year-old on the mound since the all-star break and he holds an ugly 7.40 ERA over that span. The numbers don’t get much better when he toes the rubber in road games this year. Colorado has dropped his last four away outings and is 7-7 SU on the season in his road starts while he has a 5.18 ERA.

This is the fifth trip to the mound for Anderson vs the Dodgers this season. The Rockies went 1-3 SU in his previous four appearances while the lefty sports a middling 3.74 ERA. The Nevada native made just one start at Dodger Stadium over that span and hurled eight scoreless innings in a 3-1 win. Colorado is just 3-8 SU over Anderson’s 11 career starts vs Los Angeles and he has a 4.10 ERA.

Buehler continues to impress in his rookie season

Walker Buehler (7-5, 2.88 ERA) is one of a fantastic crop of rookies in the NL this season and has held his own in a difficult NL West Division. The Dodgers have been on a win-one, lose-one streak over Buehler’s last nine outings, going 5-4 SU, and he sports a sparkling 1.76 ERA over that span. At home this season, Los Angeles is 6-4 SU over the rookie’s 10 starts and he has held opposing batters to a .189 average with an impressive 2.32 ERA at Dodger Stadium.

The 24-year-old gets his fifth look at the Rockies this season. The Dodgers went 1-3 SU in his previous four outings vs Colorado, in which he has a respectable 3.24 ERA. The righty only got the ball once at home vs the Rockies lineup and tossed seven innings of one-run ball in a 2-1 loss. Buehler may find success in this game as Colorado ranks 22nd in the majors in runs scored vs RHP this season.

Should you be on the UNDER tonight?

The first two games in this three-game series had an average combined score of 7.5 and Sportsbook has matched that total for tonight’s game at 7.5. It all comes down to which Tyler Anderson is on the mound tonight. He has gone UNDER in three of his four career road starts vs the Dodgers, but in the second half of this season he has gone OVER 7.5 runs in nine of his 10 starts. Meanwhile, the total has gone UNDER 7.5 runs in seven of Buehler’s last nine trips to the mound. Lastly, the total has gone UNDER 7.5 runs in five of the eight meetings at Dodger Stadium this season between Los Angeles and Colorado. The UNDER looks good in tonight’s game but it all really depends on Anderson.

My take on Colorado vs Los Angeles

The total in this game is a little too risky for my liking with the uncertainty around the Rockies hurler so I’m going to go with the Dodgers on the -1.5 runline. Los Angeles is 5-2 SU in its last seven home games vs Colorado and has won four of those games by two or more runs. Additionally, the Rockies rank 22nd in MLB for runs scored vs RHP this season, while the Dodgers rank in a tie for third in the majors for runs scored vs LHP this season. Lastly, Los Angeles has won six of its last seven games and has an average winning margin of 5.33 over that span.
