Jose Berrios and the Blue Jays visit the Marlins

MLB Expert Picks Today: First Five Play In Reds-Jays

We've got two new MLB expert picks for today, starting with a cheeky first-five bet in the Jays vs Reds game. After that, we're going with an underdog pick on the Rockies, who have a small edge vs the Reds

Here are my two MLB expert picks today:

MLB Expert Pick Today: Blue Jays F5 (-140) vs Reds

Blue Jays vs Reds Odds -- Game Time 7:07 p.m. ET

Yesterday, the Reds tore into Kevin Gausman for four runs in five innings, including two homers. Cincy's offense looked quite good, but now they'll face Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios, who has shut them down in the past.

I like the Blue Jays F5 bet in this game, firstly because Berrios is on the hill. Active Reds hitters are just 11-for-46 (.239 BA) lifetime vs Berrios with a .553 OPS. The Puerto Rican has not yielded a single extra-base hit to any of Cincinnati's hitters.

Berrios has also been locked in of late, spinning a 2.78 ERA in his last four starts, which is jarring when contrasted with Carson Spiers' numbers lately. The Reds rookie starter has allowed an 8.78 ERA and four homers in his last three appearances. Opponents produced a .986 OPS during that span.

Berrios will outduel Spiers, hence our -140 F5 bet. Beyond that, I'm also sweet on the OVER 8.0 runs, as Cincinnati is 5-2-1 O/U/P when Spiers starts.

MLB Expert Pick Today: Rockies ML (+125) vs Nationals

Rockies vs Nationals Odds - Game Time: 6:45 pm ET

This is a rare opportunity to play the Rockies, whose underdog status vs the Nationals today necessitates a closer look. I also usually fade games where Austin Gomber starts, but I feel different lately. First off, he hasn't been that bad lately by his standards. The Rox lefty has pitched to a 5.19 ERA in his last eight starts, during which Colorado is 4-4 SU. Not earth-shattering, but bear with me.

The Rox play the Nationals, a notoriously soft-hitting club. Washington ranks among the worst-hitting teams in baseball vs LHPs, slugging .352 (28th) and producing a .656 OPS (26th). On top of that, Nats starter DJ Herz is a loss magnet (sorry, pal). Despite some decent performances by Herz during this span, the Nationals are 1-6 SU in his last seven starts.
