Let's keep things going with two MLB expert picks for Tuesday.
My picks today focus on the run total in the Jays vs Mets contest and an upset pick in Cubs vs Dodgers. Yoshinobu Yamamoto may be back for Los Angeles, but I don't think it'll lead to a win.
Here are my two MLB picks for September 10th:
MLB Expert Pick Today: Blue Jays vs Mets UNDER 8 (-108)
Mets vs Blue Jays - Game Time: 7:08 pm ET
Chris Bassitt’s one season with the Mets may not have ended very well, booed off the field in the playoffs. But, he’s made up for it by carving New York every opportunity he gets.
In his last start against the Mets, Bassitt tossed 7.2 shutout innings, striking out eight batters before leaving the game to fly to meet his wife in labor. Current Mets hitters own a lifetime .179 average and .475 OPS against Bassitt.
On the NY side, David Peterson enters this start on quite the heater. The Mets lefty has allowed two or fewer runs in nine of his last 10 starts, moving his season ERA down to 2.75.
The UNDER 8 runs has hit in three of Peterson's last four outings. It's hit in four of Toronto's last five games, overall.
MLB Expert Pick Today: Cubs (+138) vs Dodgers
Cubs vs Dodgers Odds - Game Time: 10:11 pm ET
Yoshinobu Yamamoto makes his MLB return after missing months. The Dodgers righty has made two Triple-A rehab starts, posting a 6.75 ERA in four innings. That alone gives me enough concern to look to the underdog Cubs.
But, with Shota Imanaga starting for Chicago I feel pretty good about this one. The Cubs have won eight of Imanaga’s last 10 starts (+4.85 units), including five-straight wins against National League opponents. Imanaga has faced the Dodgers once before, pitching four shutout innings in an 8-1 Chicago win.
I also trust the Cubs offense in this one. Over the last 15 days, no team has scored more runs than Chicago (129) and they have the third-best team OPS in MLB (.781).
Picks made as of September 10 at 9:00 a.m. ET.
