Dodgers Favorites in Kershaw's 1st Start Since June

Clayton Kershaw is BACK! The Dodgers’ ace has been out with a back issue since June but will take the hill tonight in an incredible matchup with young Jose Fernandez. The Marlins have been slumping and now sit five games out of the playoffs. If they have any shot at the postseason, they will have to cool the streaking Dodgers this weekend.

SHARK BITES
  • The Dodgers are 0-4 on both the moneyline and runline in their last 4 games against the Marlins.
  • The Marlins are 7-2 in their last 9 games with a closing total of 6.5 or less.
  • The total has gone UNDER in 8 of the Dodgers' last 11 games as favorite.

Kershaw (11-2, 1.79 ERA) was the dominant pitcher in the league before hitting the DL and had led his team to wins in all but two of his 16 starts. One of those losses, however, came against the Marlins in a game they touched up the lefty for five runs on seven hits.

Fernandez, Miami’s ace, is coming off an ugly performance against the Indians in which the righty gave up six earned runs on 12 hits. Jose seems to be good for one of these blow-ups every once in a while but has normally followed up his poor outings with good ones – if that trend stays true, we are in for a brilliant pitchers’ duel tonight.

In anticipation of Kershaw's return Sportsbook has released an OVER/UNDER prop on how many strikeouts the former MVP will throw tonight. The total is set at 6 and Kershaw has averaged just over nine K's per start this season. He could be on a pitch limit, however, as he threw just 34 pitches in his rehab start five days ago. If he gets his normal workload, Kershaw should surpass this total easily.
