Dodgers vs Phillies Betting Odds July 24

Phillies Have Been Lights Out with Nola On the Mound

The Philadelphia Phillies will attempt to rebound from a tough loss vs the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Phillies were dropped 7-6 and now are tied with the Braves for the NL East lead. Philadelphia will turn to its ace Aaron Nola to shut down the red-hot Dodgers and the Phillies should feel confident with Nola on the bump as they’re 8-2 SU in their last 10 games when he gets the call. Oddsmakers, on the other hand, do not share that same conviction as the Phillies opened as a home dog for only the second time this month.

SHARK BITES
  • The Phillies are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games when Aaron Nola starts.
  • The Dodgers are 1-8 ATS in last nine games vs the Phillies.
  • The UNDER has hit in the Dodgers' last six games with Kenta Maeda as the starting pitcher.

Nola In The Conversation for Cy Young

Aaron Nola may not be a household name for the casual baseball fan but the 25-year-old is starting to make waves in the National League. Nola ranks second in the NL in ERA, wins and WHIP while helping to guide the Phillies to a 14-6 SU record in 20 starts this season. The righty has been electric for a Philadelphia squad that hasn’t had many bright spots since winning the World Series back in 2008. His stellar play this season has put him in the conversation for the Cy Young award. The Phillies are 9-0 SU in nine home games when Nola takes the mound and when you factor in that he held the Dodgers to one earned run on two hits at the end of May, bettors may want to seriously consider backing the Phillies tonight.

His counterpart Kenta Maeda will be pitted against the Phillies and he was also the starter in that matchup on May 31st but got the hook after 1.2 innings by giving up two earned runs on three hits. Maeda has guided the Dodgers to a 5-2 SU record in his last seven starts but it’s a different story on the road as LA is 3-5 SU in his eight road outings this season. The right-hander may be a serviceable starter in Los Angeles’s rotation but considering he’s also 3-5 SU in eight appearances this season against teams with winning records, this may not be his game to shine.

Runline Bettors getting Burned when Backing Dodgers

The Dodgers have only been an underdog eight times this season so bettors are using to having deflated odds when backing them. That’s why it’s been so frustrating to take their -1.5 runline when they face the Phillies as the Los Angeles is 1-8 ATS in its last nine games when facing the NL East squad and were favored in each of them. One factor that is holding them back is they’ve only managed to average just under four runs per game in those contests so runline bettors should stick to the Dodgers moneyline for now until they show they can put this team away consistently.

UNDER Bettors Profiting when Maeda Gets the Call

The total opened at 7.5 and while that’s a fairly low figure, it may be one of the better options in this matchup. Nola has made nine home starts this season (1.71 ERA) and an opponent has only scored 4 or more runs once in those games. The UNDER also seems to follow when Kenta Maeda gets the nod as the UNDER has hit in his last six starts with an average combined score of 5 runs per game.
