One day removed from being named to his first MLB All-Star Game, Ross Stripling gets the ball for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the finale of a four-game series with the San Diego Padres at Safeco Field. Countering on the bump for the Padres is Tyson Ross. Sportsbooks opened the Dodgers as -182 road chalk with a total of 7.5.
Stripling’s numbers have been stellar as a starter
Stripling, who started the season in the bullpen, has performed well above expectations since moving to the rotation. The hurler owns a fantastic 103-to-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 89.1 innings in 2018. The 28-year-old recorded his team-high seventh win against the Los Angeles Angels last Saturday, surrendering one run and three hits over six innings. He’ll have to watch out for Jose Pirela, however, as the second baseman is 5-for-6 with a home run vs Stripling. Stripling is 2-3 with a 3.04 ERA in nine career games (three starts) vs San Diego.
Ross (5-7, 4.41) dropped his fourth straight decision last Saturday against the Arizona Diamondbacks when he was taken for eight runs and seven hits in only two innings. The 31-year-old hasn’t fared well vs the Dodgers in his career, going 0-7 with a 3.49 ERA in 11 career games (nine starts) vs L.A.
Stripling has been a boon for five-inning moneyline bettors
Betting on the five-inning moneyline has become increasingly popular for MLB bettors of late, and it’s easy to understand why. When wagering on the five-inning moneyline, bettors rarely have to worry about a team’s bullplen blowing the game. When it comes to Stripling, it’s hard to find a more reliable wager in that regard. The Dodgers are 9-1-1 SU in their past 11 games on the five-inning moneyline behind Stripling.
Padres have been a stay-away bet on the five-inning moneyline behind Ross
Unlike Stripling, the Padres have been fade material when Ross gets the ball. In Ross’ previous five starts, the Padres are 0-5 SU on the five-inning moneyline. Ross has a bloated 11.77 ERA in his past three appearances while going 0-2 SU in that span. The all-star break seemingly couldn’t come soon enough for the California native.
