Dodgers Favored to Maintain Road Mastery Over Majors-Best Giants

Max Muncy and the Los Angeles Dodgers are road favorites in MLB betting odds Tuesday night in San Francisco.

The Los Angeles Dodgers dropped three of their four games at home against the San Francisco Giants last week. The Dodgers will try to return the favor with some road wins over the Giants in a three-game series in San Francisco starting Tuesday night.

Opening Odds Analysis

The Dodgers opened as -135 road favorites before being bet down to Los Angeles -120. The Giants are going off as +110 underdogs and the total in this series opener is set at 8 runs. San Francisco is 23-17 in 40 instances as an underdog this season.

Starting Pitchers Analysis

Julio Urias is tied for the major-league lead in wins with a 12-3 record to go along with a 3.63 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and 127 strikeouts in 119 innings pitched. Urias has allowed exactly one earned run in three of his last four starts. The Dodgers are 7-2 in his last nine outings.

Logan Webb has pitched well in two starts against the Dodgers this season with a 2.70 ERA and a 0.70 WHIP across 10 innings. The 24-year-old owns a 3.54 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in 61 innings this season. San Francisco is a perfect 6-0 in Webb’s last six trips to the mound.

Los Angeles News & Notes

The Dodgers leaned heavily on their pitching staff and bullpen to break out of their recent slump with a pair of low-scoring wins over the Colorado Rockies on the weekend. After going 1-5 over their previous six games, the Dodgers took the final two games of their series against the Rockies with a 1-0 win on Saturday and a 3-2 win on Sunday.

Max Muncy is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday after missing the team’s last three games on paternity leave. It will be interesting to see if Los Angeles decides to make any moves ahead of Friday’s trade deadline to add depth to the starting staff with Clayton Kershaw nursing an elbow injury, Trevor Bauer out indefinitely with legal issues and Dustin May out for the season with an elbow injury.

San Francisco News & Notes

The Giants avoided a sweep against the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates with a 6-1 win Sunday night after losing 6-4 on Friday and 10-2 on Saturday. San Francisco still has the best record in the major leagues at 62-37 and holds a two-game lead over the Dodgers in the National League West thanks to the team’s series win over Los Angeles. But since entering the MLB all-star break with a 17-7 record over their previous 24 games, the Giants are just 5-5 in their last 10.

It wouldn’t hurt the Giants to acquire some offensive help ahead of the trade deadline. San Francisco’s offense is hardly a weakness as it ranks seventh in the majors with 4.88 runs per game. But with the pitching staff performing at an elite level, ranking second in the majors in team ERA at 3.31, adding a big bat or two to hang with the league’s top offenses may be a goal.

Betting Pick: UNDER 8 runs

Urias and Webb have both been excellent young starting pitchers this season. Expect both to continue pitching well in a low-scoring affair on Tuesday.
