Starting Pitchers

Ryan Pepiot will get the ball for the Dodgers. The rookie right-hander is 1-0 with an ERA of 3.92 in five starts this season. He was recalled earlier this month and struggled against Minnesota last Wednesday, giving up four earned runs, including a pair of home runs, in 4.1 innings pitched. This will be Pepiot’s first career appearance vs the Brewers.

Milwaukee counters with Brandon Woodruff, who is having a solid season. He is 9-3 with a 3.52 ERA in 17 starts and hasn’t lost in his last eight assignments dating back to late May. Woodruff has yet to register a decision in three career regular-season appearances against the Dodgers.

Will Pitching Injuries Slow Down Los Angeles?

The Dodgers have figured this game out as they are making baseball look pretty simple these days. They have scored more runs (614) than any team this season and have allowed the fewest (363). That appears to be a recipe for success. They are currently on an incredible tear, going 30-5 since the Fourth of July holiday. It doesn’t hurt that Freddie Freeman and Trey Turner lead the majors with 142 hits each.

Despite the fact they are on a roll and remain the favorite to win the World Series at +325, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops. They have been decimated by injuries, especially when it comes to their pitching. The team announced Monday that Walker Buehler is done for the season, Clayton Kershaw is on the injured list with a sore back and Trevor Bauer remains suspended indefinitely.

There is some good news, though, as they are set to welcome Dustin May back to the rotation. He hasn’t pitched in well over a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Dog Days Of Summer For The Brew Crew

August 1 is a date the Brewers would like to forget. That’s the day they traded away star closer Josh Hader. Since then, they have gone 4-8 and went from having a three-game lead in the NL Central to being on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. Their 4-0 loss to the Dodgers last night dropped them two games back of the Cardinals in the division and two games out of the final wild-card spot.

Scoring runs has become an issue for the Brew Crew, who are averaging just 2.5 runs per game over their last seven contests. Rowdy Tellez continues to do his part, though, hitting over .300 in August with four home runs in a dozen games.

Dodgers vs Brewers Pick & Insights

Dodgers: Keys To Victory

How long can Pepiot go? The Dodgers starter hasn’t gone more than five innings in a game and with their bullpen also dealing with a number of injuries, it will be important for him to keep Milwaukee hitters at bay and give manager Dave Roberts some quality innings. If he does that, it may be a no-brainer to take the best team in baseball when making your Dodgers vs Brewers pick.

Brewers: Keys To Victory

Get some of their big bats going. If the Brewers are to beat the Dodgers, they will likely need contributions from Hunter Renfroe and Willy Adames. Together, they have gone deep 42 times this season, but they have struggled mightily this month, combining for a .213 average and just three home runs.
