The Los Angeles Dodgers' pitchers are in fine form in the early stages of the 2020 shortened season, surrendering four or fewer runs in each of their games which has led to the UNDER hitting in eight of their first 10 games. Can the San Diego Padres' hitting breakthrough in the Sportsbook game of this NL West series.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
Los Angeles opened as a -130 road favorite and has only moved slightly up to a -135 favorite, with the Padres going off as +120 underdogs at home. The total has also seen a slight shift from its opener at 7.5 runs up to its current spot at eight runs. This will be San Diego’s first game as a betting underdog in 2020.
Starting Pitchers Analysis
Walker Buehler’s first start of the season wasn’t a particularly good one as the 26-year-old allowed three hits and two runs in just 3.2 innings of work against the Houston Astros last Tuesday. Buehler is coming off of a sensational season with a 14-4 record, a 3.26 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and 215 strikeouts in 182.1 innings pitched in 2019; the hard-throwing righty shouldn’t have much trouble getting back on track soon.
Chris Paddack put together an impressive rookie campaign with a 3.33 ERA, a 0.98 WHIP and 153 strikeouts in 140.2 innings pitched last season. Paddack has picked up where he left off with a 1.64 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP through his first two starts in 2020.
Los Angeles News & Notes
The Dodgers have looked the part of a World Series favorite through the first 10 games of the season, compiling a 7-3 SU record with the best run differential in the majors at +30. Los Angeles’ offensive production is so balanced from top to bottom with nine different players have already recorded at least four RBI this season.
Mookie Betts and Corey Seager are both listed as questionable ahead of Monday’s series opener. The risk of not having two bats of this caliber would make almost any other team’s betting odds plummet, but the Dodgers are the ultimate plug-and-play team.
San Diego News & Notes
San Diego surged out of the gate to a 6-2 start through the team’s first eight games, but back-to-back losses to the Colorado Rockies handed the Padres their first series loss of the season. Historically known as a team that relies heavily on pitching, the Padres are off to an excellent start on offense this season as they lead the league in runs scored with 59 through their first 10 games.
The Padres haven’t recorded a winning record since 2010 and haven’t made the playoffs since 2006. Both of those streaks could come to an end in 2020 if San Diego keeps playing as well as they have thus far.
Betting Pick: UNDER 8
Both of these offenses are capable of putting up runs in bunches. But with two great young pitchers taking the mound in a notorious pitcher’s ballpark, this one has the look of a low-scoring pitcher’s duel.
