Pitcher Jeremy Jeffress #32 of the Milwaukee Brewers celebrates the last out of Game Two of the National League Division Series against the Colorado Rockies at Miller Park on October 5, 2018 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Brewers won the game with a score of 4-0 and lead the series 2-0.

Brewers Aim for Series Sweep Over Rockies at Coors Field

The Milwaukee Brewers haven’t advanced to the NLCS since 2011, but all they have to do in order to get back there is win one of the next three games. Holding a 2-0 lead in the NLDS, the Brew Crew will attempt to sweep of the Colorado Rockies in Game 3 on Sunday. Sportsbooks opened the Brewers as +140 road underdogs with a total of 9.5.

Miley, Marquez slated to get the start

Wade Miley and German Marquez are expected to get the start for the Brewers and Rockies, respectively. Miley (5-2, 2.57 ERA) last suffered a loss on August 18 against St. Louis but slowed over the final weeks of the regular season. The hurler didn’t record an out in the sixth inning during any of his four appearances and coughed up a combined seven runs - six earned - in seven innings over his last two turns. Miley is making his postseason debut in this one.

Marquez (14-11, 3.77) finished 2018 with a career-high 230 strikeouts across 196 innings. The 23-year-old didn’t allow more than three earned runs in any of his last 13 starts and gave up two or fewer in 11 of those games. Marquez is also making his playoff debut and suffered through one of his worst outings of the campaign at home against Milwaukee on May 10, when he yielded five runs on 12 hits and three walks while fanning three batters over 4 2/3 innings.

Brewers have been cashing behind Miley

Betting the Brewers when Miley has gotten the ball of late has been a profitable endeavor. In Miley’s last seven starts, the Brewers are a perfect 7-0. The Brew Crew are also 6-1 in Miley’s past seven road appearances, and are 5-1 in his last six road starts vs teams with winning records.

On the other side, the Rockies have gone 4-0 in Marquez’s last four home starts and are 5-1 in his previous six starts vs teams with winning records. Colorado is 12-5 in Marquez’s past 17 starts overall.

My pick: take the Brewers as road dogs

The Rockies are listed as -165 home favorites, as their 47-34 record at Coors Field is clearly playing into this line. Milwaukee is playing a special brand of baseball right now and I find it hard to fade them no matter where they’re playing. The Rockies have a major hill to climb in order to get back in this series, but the Brewers are simply playing too well to go against them right now.
