Dodgers favored over Brewers as series shifts to Los Angeles

The Los Angeles Dodgers welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to Dodger Stadium for Game 3 of the NLCS with the series knotted at 1-1. The Brewers grabbed the opener 6-5, while the Dodgers earned a 4-3 win in Game 2 and open tonight’s game as a -170 favorite with Milwaukee coming back at +145. On the hill, Jhoulys Chacin opposes Walker Buehler with the total Sportsbook at 7 runs.

Brewers eye fifth straight win behind Chacin

Jhoulys Chacin (15-8, 3.50 ERA) has been fantastic down the stretch, including an impressive postseason start against the Rockies in the NLDS. Milwaukee has won each of Chacin’s last four trips to the mound, three of them coming on the road to go along with a home win in Game 2 of the NLDS.

The Venezuela native also sports a 2.29 ERA over his last four starts and allowed one or no earned runs in three of those outings. On the season, the Brewers went 15-7 SU when Chacin toed the rubber in road games, while he had a respectable 3.33 ERA and held batters to a .205 average.

This is the second trip to the mound for Chacin against the Dodgers this season and he is hoping for a much better outcome this time around. The righty was swarmed for eight earned runs on five hits and lasted just 4.1 innings in a road start vs Los Angeles in early August.

Chacin’s clubs have a record of 14-11 SU through his 25 career starts vs the Dodgers, while he holds a 4.42 ERA in those appearances. The 30-year-old will have to be careful around Cody Bellinger as the center-fielder is 5-for-12 off Chacin with a triple, two home runs and five RBIs.

Buehler looks for better results in second career playoff start

Walker Buehler (8-5, 2.62 ERA) has been great at Dodger Stadium this season and hopes he can carry that success into tonight’s game. Los Angeles went 8-4 SU over Buehler’s 12 home outings this season where he sported an impressive 1.93 ERA, holding opposing batters to a .174 average.

The 24-year-old started the tiebreaker game against the Rockies at Dodger Stadium on October 1 and he tossed 6.2 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit in a 5-2 victory to win the NL West. The righty made his first true playoff start in Game 3 of the NLDS against the Braves at SunTrust Park, where he was roughed up for five earned runs on two hits over five innings in a 6-5 loss.

Buehler is making his second career start against Milwaukee and would like a similar performance to his first one in late July. The Kentucky native hurled seven innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits while striking out seven Milwaukee batters in a 1-0 loss at Dodger Stadium. Brewers outfielder Lorenzo Cain is the lone batter for the Brewers to have an extra-base hit vs Buehler as he hit a double with an RBI.

Is the OVER the smart bet tonight?

Through the first two games of the NLCS, there has been an average combined score of nine and Sportsbook has tonight’s total Sportsbook at 7 runs. The total has gone OVER in three of the last four meetings between the Brewers and Dodgers with an average combined score of 13.5. Additionally, the total has gone OVER or pushed in each of Chacin’s last eight starts vs Los Angeles with an average combined score of 12.88 with the lowest combined score of eight over that span. Meanwhile, of Buehler’s last four starts, the total has either pushed or gone OVER 7 runs. Lastly, the Dodgers have either pushed or gone OVER 7 runs in their last four games so I think the OVER is a smart bet tonight.

My take on Milwaukee vs Los Angeles

I do like the OVER in this game but my favorite bet is the Dodgers on the -1.5 runline. I think that Buehler can continue his strong play at home and should be able to keep the Brewers bats in check, while Chacin hasn’t had much success vs the Dodgers, holding a career 4.42 ERA against them, including a 4.99 ERA at Dodger Stadium. These stats were on display when Chacin was roughed up for eight earned runs in a 21-5 loss to Los Angeles in early August. Lastly, the Dodgers are 8-1 SU in their last nine home games with an average winning margin of 5.13.
