Berrios has Been Dominant Since Call-Up Earlier This Month

There are few better feelings in baseball than when a prospect pans out and becomes the dominant major leaguer they were advertised as. We’re witnessing that very thing happen in Minnesota right now with the transformation of right-handed starter Jose Berrios. He’s given up just one run and four hits in 15.1 innings pitched since being called up earlier this month and it looks like the Twins have something special in the Puerto Rican pitcher. The 22-year-old will go head-to-head with Chris Tillman (1-0, 3.52 ERA) as the Orioles look to rain on the Berrios parade.

SHARK BITES
  • The Twins are 8-1 SU and on the runline in their last 9 games on the road.
  • The Twins are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games on the road against the Orioles.
  • The total has gone UNDER in the Orioles' last 8 games with Chris Tillman as the starting pitcher.

Like Berrios, the rest of the Twins have been a drastically improved team in 2016. At 13-5 away from Target Center, the Twinkies have the fewest road losses in the majors yet they opened as a +130 underdog for this matinee with the O’s. Fading the public has been incredibly profitable in the early going this season and with the money coming in on Baltimore in this one, you could get paid off going the other way.

That said, Minnesota hasn’t done anything especially well this year and is probably a little lucky to be leading a division that includes the 2016 American League champs. The Twins have a middle-of-the-road 4.24 team ERA and they’re 21st in the majors in runs scored, meaning Berrios will probably have to turn in a good performance if Twins backers want to get paid off.

A righty-dominant Baltimore lineup could have trouble with Berrios as he has yet to allow a hit to a right-handed batter. Tillman has been inconsistent to this point and he could be assaulted by a lineup that includes at least six guys who can hit from the left side of the plate.
