MLB Tuesday Game Previews

Both the teams from La La Land are struggling to begin this season and each team will try to change that today in a couple of afternoon games, as the New York Yankees host the L.A. Angels and the L.A. Dodgers host the Arizona Diamondbacks.

L.A. Angels (2-5) at New York Yankees (4-2)

Bovada has the Yankees as the favorite in this game posted at -180 with the Angles at +150 with a total of 10 runs.

The Angels are coming off a loss and are in third place in the AL West 3.5 games behind Oakland and the Yankees have won two on a row and are one game back of first place Toronto in the tough AL East.

Even though the Yankees are 4-2 and the Angels are only 2-5 today’s game is the first home game in New York and L.A.’s first away game.

Taking the mound for the Angels is Ervin Santana (0-1 6.00 ERA), who is looking for his first win of the season after giving up four runs in six innings in his season debut in a loss. Andy Pettit (0-0 1.50) is also looking for his first win after going six innings and only giving up one run in a no decision in his first outing.

Before today’s game the Yankees will receive their World Series rings.

The Angels offense has really been sputtering, as they have only scored 24 runs so far this season, which is the third lowest total in the AL. on the flip side the Yankees have scored the third most runs in the AL.

L.A. had three pitchers with at least 15 wins last season, but to begin this season their staff has the worst ERA in the AL while the Yankees rank seventh.

Only Tori Hunter is really hitting for the Angels, who ranks 11th in the AL in team batting average.

The Angles are the underdog in this game, but dating back to last season the Angles are 5-0 when Ervin Santana takes the mound and L.A. is the underdog. Dating back to last season, including the post-season, Andy Pettit has won his last four starts.

Arizona Diamondbacks (4-2) at L.A. Dodgers (2-4)

Bovada has the Dodgers as the favorite posted at -175 with the D-Backs at +155 with a total of 8 runs.

Today’s game is the first home game of the season for the Dodgers and the first away game for the D-Backs.

The D-Backs are coming off a win and trail the first place Giants in the NL West by 1.5 games and the Dodgers are in the basement of the division 3.5 games back of the Giants and have lost two in a row.

Both starting pitchers were banged up in their first start of the season, but each had a no-decision. Arizona’s Ian Kennedy (0-0 5.40 ERA), who gave up 3 earned runs in five innings in his last start, faces L.A.’s Clayton Kershaw (0-0 5.79 ERA), who gave up 3 earned runs in four innings in his last start. Kershaw lost his last three starts of last season and he is 0-3 in his career against Arizona.

The Dodgers’ offense has been solid, but their pitching has really let them down, as they rank 12th in team ERA (5.23). Their bullpen has been really shaky, as they blew two leads in two games over the weekend.

Arizona has had decent pitching, but they are winning with their offense that has scored the third most runs in the NL.

Dating back to last season Arizona is 8-21 in their last 29 road games and L.A. is 3-11 in the last 14 games where Clayton Kershaw starts on the mound.
