MLB Weekend Interleague Betting

Interleague play returns to Major League Baseball this weekend with a great rivalry matchup between the Los Angeles Angels and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It also marks the second start for much-hyped rookie Stephen Strasburg who burst on the scene this week for the Nationals. The Angels and Dodgers are both fighting for first place in their division after starting the month of June on fire.

The Dodgers have passed the Padres and lead San Diego by one game after starting the month 7-2. The Angels are nipping at the heels of the Rangers in the AL West after a 7-3 start in June.

Their interleague series gets started on Friday night with Joel Pineiro (4-6, 5.23) starting for the Angels and Chad Billingsley (6-3, 3.80) getting the ball for the Dodgers. Pineiro picked up a win over Seattle in his last start after allowing four runs on nine hits in six innings. He's pitched well against the Dodgers in his career with a 2-0 record and 3.38 ERA in three starts.

Billingsley took the loss against Atlanta in his last outing after surrendering three runs on seven hits in seven innings. In six career appearances against the Angels he's 1-2 with a 2.89 ERA. The rest of the weekend pitching matchups in the series include Scott Kazmir (5-5, 5.40) vs. John Ely (3-2, 3.00) on Saturday and Jered Weaver (5-3, 3.20) vs. Carlos Monasterios (3-0, 2.27) on Sunday.

Also on the schedule this weekend is an interleague rematch from May when the Phillies and Red Sox clash in Boston. In May the Sox took two of three from the Phillies in Philadelphia. The series begins on Friday night with Jamie Moyer (6-5, 3.98) starting for Philadelphia and John Lackey (6-3, 4.72) getting the call for Boston.

Moyer pitched a complete-game seven hitter against the Padres in his last start, but Boston has teed off on Moyer during his long career. In 23 appearances against the Sox Moyer is 6-12 with a 6.57 ERA Lackey pitched well in a no-decision in his last start, holding the Orioles to two runs on seven hits in seven innings. He faced the Phillies back on May 21 and was roughed up for four runs on six hits in five innings to take the loss.

In two career starts against the Phillies Lackey is 1-1 with 3.97 ERA. The rest of the pitching matchups in the Phillies/Sox series this weekend include Joe Blanton (1-4, 6.07) vs. Daisuke Matsuzaka (5-2, 4.59) on Saturday and Cole Hamels (5-5, 3.98) vs. Tim Wakefield (2-4, 5.48) on Sunday.

Looking ahead to Sunday, bettors will get another look at Washington phenom Stephen Strasburg in his second career start against the Indians. In his debut Strasburg racked up 14 strikeouts in seven innings against the Pirates. He'll face off against Indians starter David Huff (2-7, 5.46). Strasburg could be in for a big afternoon against a Cleveland squad that is sixth in the majors in strikeouts.
