Starting Pitchers

Jake Odorizzi(4-4) will make his third start with the Braves since being acquired on the eve of the trade deadline. The right-hander last pitched on August 12 against the Miami Marlins when he gave up eight hits and two earned runs over four innings in a no-decision. Odorizzi has a 3.80 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP through 68.2 innings this season.

The Mets will counter with their ace, Max Scherzer (8-2). The right-hander had an off-night in his last start against the Philadelphia Phillies on August 12 as he surrendered nine hits over seven innings, though he only gave up one earned run. Scherzer, a perennial NL Cy Young candidate, owns a 1.93 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP over 102.2 innings of work.

Mets Lose Starter To Injury In Second Straight Game

The Mets fell 5-0 to the Braves on Tuesday and have scored just one run through the first two games of the series. Francisco Lindor was the only Mets batter to register two hits as the club only managed three hits and five baserunners the entire game. Starter Taijuan Walker left after two innings due to injury, while reliever RJ Alvarez was handed the loss after allowing four hits and three earned runs in 2.1 innings of work.

New York’s rotation has taken a big blow over the last two contests, losing Carlos Carrasco to a strained left oblique in the series opener and now Walker to back spasms on Tuesday night. Carrasco is leading the team with 13 wins, while Walker is one of two Mets pitchers with 10 victories (Chris Bassitt).

Morton Throws A Gem As Braves Shut Out Mets

Charlie Morton pitched 6.2 scoreless innings while striking out 12 to help the Braves cruise to a 5-0 win on Tuesday night. Robbie Grossman hit a solo shot and Matt Olson tagged a two-run bomb to lead the way offensively for the Braves, whose 182 home runs trail only the New York Yankees (192) for the most in the majors.

Everything has been clicking for Atlanta during its eight-game win streak as the club is outscoring opponents by an average of 6.63-2.50 over that span. Pitching has been especially dominant over the last few games as the Braves have allowed just six runs combined over their last five contests.

Olson continues to lead the way at the plate with four homers and 12 RBIs in August, while four others – Eddie Rosario, Dansby Swanson, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Michael Harris II – have at least nine RBIs this month.

Mets vs Braves Pick & Insights

Mets: Keys To Victory

The Mets have mustered just one run in the series and nine runs over their last five games, which needless to say is not a formula for success. Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso have been hot in August with three homers and 12 RBIs apiece – look for them to reignite the offense as New York tries to get back into the series.

Braves: Keys To Victory

The challenge for Atlanta will be to get to Scherzer, who has made 10 consecutive starts without allowing more than two runs. The bright side for the Braves, though, is that Scherzer has looked a bit more human of late, allowing five-plus hits in five of his last six outings. If the Braves can get on base, they should be able to put some runs up on the Mets’ ace.
