Should We Blindly Take The OVER Between Yankees-Red Sox?

Yankees vs Red Sox Betting Odds July 28, 2019

The Boston Red Sox offense has broken out in a big way vs the New York Yankees and the Sox can complete the sweep tonight at Fenway Park. Chris Sale is on the mound for Boston and he’s gotten roughed up both times when he faced the Yankees earlier this season.

The Red Sox opened as -180 favorites with a total of 10.

Yankees vs Red Sox Game Center

  • Domingo German may not be the Yankees best pitcher but the Yanks seem to come through when he starts. The 26-year-old sports a 4.03 ERA in 16 starts and New York is 13-3 SU and ATS in those games. He got roughed up in his last outing in Minnesota by giving up nine hits and eight earned runs in 3.2 innings. His road ERA this season is 5.66.
  • Chris Sale can still be a dominant pitcher but he’s been a mixed bag this season. He’s coming off two quality starts where he only gave up six hits over 12 innings and struck out 22 batters but his previous two outings in July saw him allow 10 earned runs in just 10.1 innings. In two starts vs the Yankees this season, Sale has a 6.55 ERA with a .304 opponent batting average.
  • Boston’s offense has taken off lately and over the last 30 days, it’s the cream of the crop in MLB. In that span, the Red Sox rank first in hits, doubles, batting average, RBI and OPS. Just in his series (three games), they’ve scored 38 runs.
  • The Yankees lead the AL East and are not used to losing four games in a row. They’ve only lost three consecutive games three times all season and haven’t had a four-game losing streak since the second week of April.
  • Seven days may be a small sample size but these bullpens are getting lit up in this stretch. Both teams relievers’ sport an ERA over 5.10 in that span with the Yankees bullpen getting crushed during this series (7.46 ERA).
  • Both of these AL East powerhouses have been pushing totals way OVER lately. The OVER has hit in the Yankees’ last eight games (average combined score: 15.9) while the OVER has hit in seven of the Red Sox’ last nine games (average combined score: 14.2). It’s also worth noting the OVER has hit in the last six games in this matchup.

My Best Bet for Yankees vs Red Sox

I tried to find the edge on taking the Red Sox -1.5 runline or banking on the Yankees +160 moneyline but to me, there’s only one play to make and that’s the OVER. The Red Sox offense has caught lightning in a bottle and they’re destroying nearly any pitcher the Yankees are throwing at them.

In three games of this series, the Red Sox are averaging 12 runs per game. The OVER has also hit in 9 of the last 10 games in this matchup when played at Fenway Park although it’s worth noting only one of those starts featured Sale.
