Starting Pitchers

Luis Garcia (5-5) will try to pick up his third straight victory when he takes the mound for Houston. The right-hander allowed six hits and three earned runs over five innings against the New York Mets on June 22 to earn the win. Garcia owns a 3.68 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP over 71 innings this season.

Luis Severino (4-2) looks to rebound after a loss in his last outing on June 24 against the Astros. Severino scattered five hits and three earned runs over six innings while striking out seven. The right-hander has a 3.38 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP through 72 innings.

Yankees Continue Historically Hot Start

The Yankees completed a three-game sweep of the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday as they emerged with a 5-3 victory. Oakland jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning but Aaron Judge replied with a two-run shot in the bottom half before Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run bomb in the third to put New York up for good. Jameson Taillon picked up the win to improve to 9-1 on the season.

With the victory, New York improved to 56-20 and matched the 2001 Mariners and 1998 Yankees for the best 76-game start since 1930. Additionally, the home runs from Judge and Stanton brought the Yankees’ total to 57 in June, surpassing the 2016 Orioles and 2019 Braves for the most ever in the month.

Verlander Pitches A Gem Against Mets

The Astros picked up their second straight win over the New York Mets on Wednesday in a 2-0 ballgame. It was scoreless until the ninth inning when Jason Castro hit a two-run shot in the top half to seal the win for Houston.

Justin Verlander was sensational on the mound as he went eight innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while fanning six. The Astros ace improved to 10-3 and became the first pitcher in the majors to reach the 10-win mark this season.

Houston’s pitching has turned up the heat of late, allowing just 1.6 runs per game over the last five contests – a span that features two shutouts, including one against the Yankees just last weekend. It’s been a common theme for the Astros, who rank second in the majors in team ERA this season (2.98), behind only the Yankees (2.93).

Yankees vs Astros Pick & Insights

Yankees: Keys To Victory

Judge and Stanton have led the way for New York of late with Judge cashing in four home runs and nine RBIs over his last eight outings, while Stanton has recorded five homers and 10 RBIs over six appearances. Garcia hasn’t been overly impressive on the mound for Houston, so it’s hard to see New York’s two-headed attack slowing down tonight.

Astros: Keys To Victory

The Astros lost power hitter Yordan Alvarez to a possible concussion in Wednesday’s win, so they’ll need some other bats to step up. Kyle Tucker has 15 homers and 51 RBIs on the season and has really turned it up in June with nearly half of his totals coming this month – he’ll need to keep it up if the Astros are going to keep pace with the high-powered Yankees.
