The Mets are right in the middle of a tight NL playoff race and will take on America’s Cubs tonight in hopes of taking the series against the NL Central leaders. New York will send the ageless Bartolo Colon (8-4, 3.11 ERA) to the mound to take on Kyle Hendricks (8-6, 2.41 ERA).
Colon keeps flipping the hourglass that is dripping down to the end of his career and has given the Mets seven wins in his last eight starts. In his only start against the Cubs this year, Bartolo got a win in a six-inning four-hitter in which he gave up only two runs.
Kyle Hendricks has very quietly put together an excellent season. In nine starts at Wrigley, the not-so-hard throwing righty has earned a 6-1 record, posted a 1.50 ERA and batters have hit a paltry .189 off of him. Hendricks has been overshadowed by Jake Arrieta the past couple of seasons but he has proven he is a legit front-end starter.
Both these teams are hot with their respective pitchers on the mound but the Cubs probably have the edge here. The Mets are 3-8 in their last 11 games at Wrigley Field.
