Despite having their starting pitchers drop like flies, the Mets are now just one game out of the playoffs in part due to the four-game winning streak they are currently on. Noah Syndergaard (12-8, 2.56 ERA) is the only stud left standing for New York as he toes the rubber this afternoon looking to close out the sweep of the Reds and to continue his teams’ long winning streak against Cincinnati.
Syndergaard has put together three-straight quality starts and has managed to keep his ERA under three all season long. The Mets have won three of his last four starts and have scored an average of 5.75 runs in those games. In a couple appearances, Thor has limited the Reds’ batters to a .173 average and has not given up a hit to slugger Joey Votto, who is 0/9 with four strikeouts against Syndergaard.
The Reds will counter with righty Anthony DeSclafani who has been arguably their best starter this season. In 16 starts since coming off the DL, DeSclafani is 8-2 with a 2.93 ERA. Unlike his opposing starter, DeSclafani has been terrible against the batters he will be facing today. The New Jersey native has been torched by the Mets’ current lineup as they own a .392 batting average against him.
