Starting Pitchers
Cole Irvin (9-11) picked up the win for Oakland last time out despite allowing seven hits and four earned runs over seven innings on September 17 against the Houston Astros. The southpaw owns a 3.79 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP in 166.1 innings of work.
Chris Bassitt (14-8) pitched a gem last time out, giving up three hits and no runs to the Pittsburgh Pirates over six innings on September 17. The right-hander has a 3.32 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP over 171 innings this year.
Mets’ Win Streak Ended By Brewers
The Mets had their six-game winning streak snapped Wednesday when they were shut out 6-0 by the Milwaukee Brewers. New York managed just four hits in the ball game and was held scoreless for the first time since August 28.
First baseman Pete Alonso has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the last 15 days with five homers and 15 RBIs, trailing only Willy Adames of the Brewers for the most runs driven in over that span. Alonso leads the Mets in both home runs (37) and RBIs (121) this season.
Pitching Lets Athletics Down Again
The Athletics dropped their series finale against the Seattle Mariners by a score of 9-5 on Thursday after taking the first two contests. All five of Oakland’s runs came in the third inning with Stephen Vogt leading the charge with a three-run triple. Starter Adrian Martinez was rocked for six hits and five earned runs over five innings.
Pitching has been Oakland’s downfall this season as the club has allowed 4.74 runs per game, ranking 24th in the majors. But it’s been even worse through the last 20 contests with that number bumping up to 6.30 over that span.
Mets Player Prop: Alonso To Record An RBI (+125)
Alonso has been one of the hottest bats in MLB over the last couple of weeks and should be a lock to record at least one RBI on Friday. The Mets slugger is getting +125 to do so – we like those odds.
Athletics Player Prop: Kemp To Record An RBI (+330)
Tony Kemp leads Oakland with five RBIs over the last week, with all of those coming in his last three games. +330 for Kemp to get at least one RBI is a huge value bet that we can’t ignore.
Mets: Keys To Win
The Mets own the sixth-best offense in the majors at 4.70 runs per game this season. They’ll have a chance to flex that offensive muscle against an Athletics team that has struggled to keep opponents under six runs. Look for Alonso and company to put up some big numbers on Friday.
Athletics: Keys To Win
Irvin is undefeated over his last five games with a 3-0 record, though that doesn’t tell the whole story as he’s given up four or more earned runs in three of those outings, including nine against the Atlanta Braves on September 6. The Athletics seem to give Irvin tons of run support, though, so maybe that trend continues.
