Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Since Sportsbook as a -110 favorite on Sunday night, the Phillies have settled in as a -115 favorite while the Mets are going off as -105 road underdogs. The total has moved up from eight runs to 8.5 runs after early bettors favored the OVER in this matchup. The OVER is 6-1 in New York’s last seven road games against Philadelphia.

Starting Pitchers Analysis

David Peterson has an unimpressive 1-3 record with a 5.59 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP through his first four starts in 2021. His statline is bogged down by his first start of the season when he allowed seven hits and six earned runs in four innings of an 8-2 loss to Philadelphia. Since then, Peterson has compiled a respectable 3.52 ERA and a crisp 0.98 WHIP over his last three starts.

Zach Eflin had his worst start of the season in his last trip to the mound allowing nine hits and five earned runs across 6.2 innings in a 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Even after the disappointing outing, Eflin still has a 3.58 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP through his first five starts. Eflin has historically struggled against the Mets with a 5.21 ERA in 11 career starts against them.

New York News & Notes

The Mets finally snapped out of a three-game losing streak and a major scoring slump on Saturday with a five-run effort against the Phillies. Michael Conforto broke a 4-4 tie with a home run in the top of the ninth inning to finish the day 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, leading New York to a 5-4 win over its division rival.

New York has the second best team ERA in the majors with a 2.96 ERA, but it hasn’t amounted to more than a 10-11 record as the Mets also have the second worst offense in the majors averaging only three runs per game. The Mets made a big splash during the offseason bringing superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor into the lineup, but Lindor has been a major disappointment to date batting only .182 through his first 21 games.

Philadelphia News & Notes

Philadelphia’s offense has been heavily hampered by injuries during this series. Jean Segura is on the injured list with a quad injury and Bryce Harper (wrist) and J.T. Realmuto (hand) have both missed Friday and Saturday’s games with minor injuries. Harper and Realmuto are both listed as questionable to return on Sunday.

The Phillies rank 20th in the majors in pitching with a team ERA of 4.31 and 26th in batting with only 3.74 runs per game. But despite thes underwhelming stats and a -16 run differential, Philadelphia enters Sunday’s action in first place in the NL East with a record of 13-14. All five teams in the division are separated by less than two games in the standings.

Betting Pick: UNDER 8.5 Runs

Before Saturday’s game, New York hadn’t had a game hit nine runs in its previous seven games and Philadelphia hadn’t in its previous five games. With two solid starting pitchers on the mound, look for both teams to get back to their low-scoring ways on Sunday.
