Opening Odds Analysis

The Yankees opened as -177 favorites on the road and have only moved down slightly with the line now sitting at New York -169. Baltimore is a +159 home underdog and the total is set at 9 runs in this matchup. The UNDER is 6-1 in New York’s last seven road games.

Starting Pitchers Analysis

Corey Kluber has been strong in his first two starts in May with a 1.32 ERA and 0.87 WHIP, leading the Yankees to wins in both games. Kluber also pitched well in his last game of April on the road against the Orioles when he allowed only one earned run and struck out five batters in 6.2 innings. The veteran right-hander has a 3.06 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP on the season.

Dean Kremer is also having a solid month with a 3.27 ERA and a 0.91 WHIP in two starts against the Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox. Kremer has struggled badly in two starts against the Yankees this season, however, with an 0-2 record, an 11.05 ERA and a 2.59 WHIP.

New York News & Notes

The Yankees failed to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night as they were on the wrong end of a 9-1 blowout in Tampa. New York is 4-1 over its last five games thanks entirely to the team’s pitching staff, which allowed a total of only six runs over those four wins. The offense is averaging only 2.4 runs per game over New York’s last six games.

Giancarlo Stanton leads the Yankees in home runs (nine) and RBIs (24). But as a whole, the offense continues to struggle as it ranks 13th in the American League in scoring at only 3.86 runs per game. Gio Urshela is listed as questionable for Friday’s game with knee pain.

Baltimore News & Notes

The Orioles are one of the two teams in the American League with lower run production than the Yankees as they have produced 3.73 runs per game. Baltimore was playing well back in late April and early May with a 7-4 record over an 11-game span, but more recently the Orioles are 1-5 over their last six games and have averaged just 2.5 runs per game over their last four outings.

Baltimore has been MLB’s worst home team in 2021 with a 5-13 record at Camden Yards. The Orioles own a surprising 11-8 road record despite losing their last two road games to the New York Mets earlier this week.

Betting Pick: New York -169

Corey Kluber has bounced back since a rough start and Dean Kremer has already been tagged by the Yankees twice this season. No reason to overthink this one as New York should continue its recent hot streak here.
