Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Bettors were quick to jump on the Rangers as +153 home underdogs on the Sportsbook line to drive Texas down to +133 and the Yankees down to -143. The total has also seen plenty of movement since Sportsbook at 9.5 runs with UNDER bettors moving the line down to 8.5 runs. Texas closed as a +235 underdog in Monday’s upset win.

Starting Pitchers Analysis

Jameson Taillon has not pitched particularly well in his first season with the Yankees, sporting a 1-3 record with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP through seven starts. The real damage has come on the road where Taillon is 0-3 with a 9.49 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP. He has lasted an average of only four innings in his three road starts.

Mike Foltynewicz had a career year back in 2018 with the Atlanta Braves when he pitched 183 innings with a 2.85 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP and 202 strikeouts. He has never come close to replicating those stats, and his struggles have continued in his first season in Texas with a 1-3 record, a 4.60 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. The Yankees are the only team Foltynewicz never pitched against in his six years in Atlanta.

New York News & Notes

The Yankees appeared to turn a corner on offense over the weekend with 19 runs scored in their three games against the Baltimore Orioles. Jordan Lyles looked to be a favorable target with a 6.63 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP heading into Monday night’s game, but the Yankees managed only six hits and one earned run against him in a 5-2 loss as -255 favorites.

Aaron Judge went 0-for-3 in the loss, snapping a six-game hitting streak in which the Yankees slugger batted .571. Over the weekend against Baltimore, Judge went 6-for-10 with six runs, four home runs and five RBIs. His production in the heart of New York’s lineup is key to the Yankees’ success moving forward.

Texas News & Notes

Willie Calhoun and Adolis Garcia both had two hits and a home run on Monday to help chase Gerrit Cole out of the game after he gave up seven hits and five runs in five innings.

Garcia is enjoying a breakout season in 2021 as he now leads the Rangers in batting average (.296), home runs (11) and RBIs (28). The 28-year-old is batting .356 with 10 runs, six homers and 14 RBIs so far in May.

Texas’s win on Monday snapped a six-game losing streak for the Rangers. The Rangers had been playing good ball before their recent skid as they had won three straight series and compiled an 8-3 record against the Boston Red Sox, Minnesota Twins and Seattle Mariners.

Betting Pick: OVER 8.5 runs

Jameson Taillon has been awful on the road this season and Mike Foltynewicz has been underwhelming in most of his starts as well. The stage is set for some offensive fireworks despite both of these teams having their share of struggles at the plate this season.
