Giancarlo Stanton #27 of the New York Yankees hits a solo home run in the ninth inning on Opening Day during MLB game action against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on March 29, 2018 in Toronto, Canada.

Bronx Bombers Look to Go Back-to-Back in Canada

The new-look New York Yankees looked impressive in their first Sportsbook Day win since 2011 en route to a 6-1 road victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday and will look to improve to 2-0 in Canada on Friday.

Sportsbook opened the Yanks as -144 road favorites with a total of nine.

SHARK BITES
  • The UNDER is 4-1-1 in the Yankees' last six road games.
  • The Yankees are 5-1 SU in Masahiro Tanaka's last six starts vs the Blue Jays.
  • The UNDER is 4-0 in the Blue Jays' last four games.

Giancarlo Stanton had no problem living up to the immense hype in his debut in pinstripes by taking only the second pitch he saw deep against J.A. Happ. Stanton, who paced the majors with 59 home runs with Miami in 2017, also homered in the ninth to cap a 3-for-5 day with four RBIs. Toronto produced only two hits in the setback, and short stop Troy Tulowitzki was placed on the 60-day disabled list with heel bone spurs prior to the season-Sportsbook game.

Masaharo Tanaka and Aaron Sanchez are slated to get the ball for the Yankees and Jays, respectively. Tanaka (13-12, 4.74 ERA in 2017) won at least 12 games for the fourth straight season in 2017 but allowed 35 home runs in the process, so getting that number down is extremely important for the veteran. Tanaka tossed a 15-strikeout, three-hit performance against the Bluebirds on September 29.

Sanchez (1-3, 4.25 in 2017) won 15 games in the 2016 campaign but was plagued by injuries a year ago by only taking the mound eight times. The 25-year-old fared well in spring training by permitting only one run and two hits in a 6 1/3 innings effort vs Atlanta.

Dating back to last year, the OVER is trending when Tanaka takes the road. In the Yankees’ last six away from home behind Tanaka, the OVER is 5-1.
